The ongoing controversy surrounding NICKMERCS' anti-LGBTQ remarks escalated when the popular Twitch streamer, Hasan, was declared "dead" to him. Activision had already removed NICKMERCS' Call of Duty operator bundle due to his controversial tweets. However, the situation gained further attention when several of his colleagues expressed support for him.
One notable show of support came from Dr Disrespect, who uninstalled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as a protest against Activision's decision and demanded an apology for NICKMERCS. This action did not sit well with other internet personalities, including Hasan Piker, known as HasanAbi on his streams. During a stream in mid-June, Hasan made a remark suggesting that Dr Disrespect prioritizes NICKMERCS over his own wife, referencing Dr Disrespect's public admission of infidelity and subsequent break from streaming in late 2017.
And in response to Hasan's criticism of the NICKMERCS controversy, Dr Disrespect has already fired back by resorting to name-calling. However, the streamer at the center of the drama, NICKMERCS, has now shared his own perspective on the matter. During a broadcast on June 19, NICKMERCS revealed that he recently reached out to Hasan to sever their ties due to the ongoing dispute. He expressed his disappointment by stating that Hasan is now "dead" to him after making jokes about Dr Disrespect's infidelity. Additionally, he acknowledged that neither of them are likely to lose any sleep over the fallout from this situation.
NICKMERCS' initial comments that sparked this ongoing controversy have been overshadowed by the subsequent drama. However, it is worth noting that the controversy began with a tweet on June 7, in which the Twitch streamer expressed the opinion that pro-LGBTQ demonstrators "should leave little children alone." The remark gained even more attention due to its context, as NICKMERCS was commenting on a video showing violence against pro-LGBTQ demonstrators. As a result, many interpreted his statement as endorsing anti-LGBTQ violence, a claim that the streamer strongly refuted.
In addition to Dr Disrespect, TimTheTatman has publicly supported NICKMERCS in recent days. He went so far as to request Activision to remove his own operator skin from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as a show of solidarity with the streamer. Activision granted this request on June 11.
