Summary
Shiv's future after the Succession series finale looks bleak as she faces huge life changes and the loss of power within the Roy family.
Despite her loss of power, Shiv still holds an advantage over her brothers due to her husband Tom's connection to Waystar Royco. With this in mind, Shiv may envision a plan to collaborate with Tom, aiming to regain her position and seek retribution against Lukas Matsson, the individual accountable for her downfall.
Sarah Snook shares insight into Shiv's future in the aftermath of the Succession series finale. The popular HBO show concluded in April, concluding the gripping tale of the Roy family. The final episode left fans curious about the path ahead for the three Roy siblings - Shiv, Kendall, and Roman - as they grappled with the loss of control over their late father's global media empire.
The Succession finale hinted at dark prospects for all the Roy children, and Snook, who portrays Shiv, believes that her character has a particularly gloomy fate in store. During an interview with Variety, conducted before the ongoing actors' strike, Snook delved into Shiv's enigmatic final moments on the show. Notably, she discussed the awkward hand-hold between Shiv and her husband, Tom, who had recently been appointed as the new CEO. Snook also offered her thoughts on how Shiv's pregnancy might impact her journey as a mother. Continue reading to discover Snook's insights.
I would say [Shiv and Tom are] equally matched — with Shiv, if anything, slightly inferior. While he would proceed to work the following day, she would need to put on a façade of happiness. Acquaintances of mine often inquire, "What do you think will become of Shiv in the aftermath of all this?" Shiv is on the brink of motherhood, and amidst all the chaos, she is thrust back into a problematic relationship with her husband. Nonetheless, I believe the arrival of the baby will have an undeniable impact on her. She is likely to experience a profound postpartum depression and face a challenging year ahead. ... Whatever conflict she currently endures, in that moment, they are on equal footing. However, I anticipate that she will soon descend quite swiftly.
Shiv Could Still Win Out Over Her Siblings, But She'll Need Tom
Shiv's ultimate aspiration in Succession was to outshine her siblings and secure the position of CEO at Waystar Royco. Unfortunately, when that opportunity slipped away, she resorted to sabotaging her brother Kendall's chances of becoming CEO, ultimately leaving her husband Tom in charge. Although Shiv's immediate future appears grim after the events of the finale, she still possesses the potential to emerge victorious over both Roman and Kendall.
Despite not being the CEO in the end of Succession, Shiv has an advantageous position compared to her brothers. She still has a connection to Waystar Royco through her husband, whom she was seen leaving with in the final moments of the finale. In contrast, Kendall and Roman appear to be completely disconnected and directionless. The extent of Shiv's advantage depends on her husband's willingness to collaborate, given their tumultuous relationship. Additionally, there is uncertainty about Tom's actual power as CEO, considering Lukas Matsson's control over the company following the merger with GoJo. If motherhood doesn't provide Shiv with a true purpose after the Succession finale, she may attempt to regain power alongside Tom and seek revenge against Matsson for leaving her excluded.
