In previous seasons, Michael had disappointed viewers with his cruel behavior as Moordale's principal, his mean treatment of his son Adam, and his unremarkable role as a husband to Maureen. However, in season 4, Michael repeatedly displays that he can indeed become a better person, and each of these moments tugs at the strings of the audience's hearts, causing them to swell with joy. It is truly remarkable to witness Michael actively working on self-improvement after being the show's antagonist for so long, particularly when it comes to his relationships with Adam and Maureen. When Michael finally reveals his love to Adam in the final episode, it produces a moment that is both satisfying and heartwarming—a moment that can only be described as truly wonderful.

Jackson's storyline in Sex Education season 4 was among the least enjoyable. Moreover, the deliberate pace of their relationship and their personal quests, such as Aimee's exploration of her artistic talents, contribute to a captivating and thoughtfully developed romantic narrative.

Many fan-favorite characters were noticeably absent in Sex Education season 4, leaving a significant gap in the storyline. Unfortunately, the series failed to address this absence, particularly with regards to Ola (played by Patricia Allison) and Lily (played by Tanya Reynolds). The show missed an opportunity by not providing an explanation or even acknowledging their departure. While one can speculate that these characters may have transferred to another school, the lack of clarity regarding their absence was dissatisfying. This omission could have been easily rectified by the creators of Sex Education.

Sex Education season 4 left fans disappointed as Jean and Jakob's reunion never materialized. Despite their challenging journey in season 3, their undeniable chemistry and fervor made them a beloved couple worth rooting for. Hence, Jakob's absence in season 4 proved to be a major letdown. Beyond the heartbreak of their failed romance, the pain was further amplified by witnessing Jean's arduous struggle to care for herself and Joy throughout the season. Had Jakob been by her side, Jean's torment would have been alleviated, and the season would have been infused with more happiness.

Unfortunately, this choice proved unfavorable for the series as it became increasingly difficult to find redeeming qualities in Otis, even after he apologized for his actions. It was particularly bewildering to witness such immaturity from a character with therapy experience, such as his lack of support for Maeve while she was in America or his arrogant insistence on being the "original" sex therapist. While Otis eventually underwent a transformation, his behavior throughout the season remained irrational, ultimately casting him as more of an antagonist than a protagonist.

Although many viewers may have desired for Maeve and Otis to be together, the decision to separate them ultimately proved to be beneficial. Despite their undeniable chemistry and status as the couple to support, the series emphasized that in order for both Maeve and Otis to develop and thrive, they needed to be apart. Maeve required the opportunity to go to America, while Otis needed a stable and dependable relationship. As a result, it was more advantageous for them to peacefully end their relationship, acknowledging their love for each other and willing to let go, rather than remaining together in unhappiness. In this instance, Sex Education undoubtedly achieved its goals in a poignant manner.
