Jasmin Savoy Brown, who played Mindy Meeks-Martin in Scream 7, hopes to delve deeper into her character's life beyond Ghostface. While Mindy was initially introduced as a horror enthusiast who took over her late uncle Randy's position, Scream VI gave audiences a glimpse of her life as a college student, alongside Tara Carpenter, her twin brother Chad Meeks-Martin, and her girlfriend. Despite this, Mindy has predominantly served as the self-aware horror expert within the core four.
In an interview with Screen Rant to promote Scream VI's digital and home release, Brown expressed her desire to explore more of Mindy's life outside the context of Ghostface. Drawing parallels with Sam Carpenter's storyline in Scream VI, which saw her attend therapy and develop a new love interest, Danny, Brown hopes that Mindy's character will also be afforded the opportunity to have her personal life explored in greater detail. For more insights from Brown, check out the full interview below.
When it comes to Jasmin Savoy Brown's character on Scream, many viewers only see her as a victim running from Ghostface. However, there are glimpses of her personal life, such as her therapy sessions and relationship with Danny. It would be refreshing to see more of her outside of the horror setting.
Similarly, Mindy's character could benefit from more exploration outside of the main plot. Even if she's still discussing the ongoing events, seeing her in different environments could add depth to her character. For example, it would be interesting to see her interactions with Anika when they're alone or to see her passion for film through directing a short film. Adding these layers would not only be entertaining, but it would also give the audience a better understanding of who Mindy truly is beyond just a secondary character.
Exploring How Mindy Copes With The Ghostface Murders In Scream 7
In Scream VI, Mindy suffered a brutal stabbing, lost her girlfriend, and almost lost her twin brother. In the yet-to-be-announced Scream 7, it would be interesting to see how she's dealing with these traumatic experiences. Surviving two attacks by killers disguised as friends is sure to affect her ability to trust others. Mindy may also be struggling with feelings of guilt over Anika's death, especially since she had pointed out that Anika could be a suspect, and Anika ended up saving her life.
By exploring the lives of the core four beyond their encounters with Ghostface, we can gain a better understanding of how different people deal with trauma. For example, Sam becomes hyper-vigilant and protective, as seen in Scream VI, while Tara tries to ignore her trauma. Brown's suggestion of having Mindy direct a short film could be a way to showcase how she expresses herself through her art and how her love for movies and horror beyond the core four influences her life.
