The home team extended their lead five minutes later when Nicola Doherty's powerful shot from long distance was deflected by Turner, resulting in a corner. Caroline Weir's well-placed corner kick met the head of Kerr, whose deflection found the back of the net, making it 2-0.
Scotland appeared to be comfortably ahead only a couple of minutes afterwards, as Kirsty Hanson's cross was skillfully guided into the goal by Thomas, who had made a well-timed run towards the front post.
Northern Ireland squandered opportunities to turn the game around both before and after halftime. Rachel Furness' impressive long-range shot narrowly brushed the post, while Rebecca Holloway was unable to convert a promising chance from beyond the box, resulting in their eventual defeat.
