Uber has introduced a new feature that aims to alleviate the hassle of returning packages. This update enables users to conveniently request an Uber to deliver their online purchases directly to nearby post offices, FedEx or UPS locations.
Uber's new package return feature that allows users to call for a courier to pick-up packages and drop them off at shipping locations.
A new feature has been introduced by CNN and Uber to assist online shoppers who dislike the process of returning purchases. According to a study conducted by the National Retail Federation (NRF) and cited by Uber, almost half of consumers would rather endure rush-hour traffic than return items by mail. Additionally, 79% of shoppers under the age of 30 find mail returns to be irritating. However, returns are a common occurrence in consumers' lives, with the NRF reporting that an average of 16.5% of retail sales are returned.
Uber's latest solution to address this issue is a new feature as part of Uber Connect, their existing service that enables users to send items for same-day local delivery. By simply tapping a button in either the Uber or Uber Eats app, customers can now request a courier to pick up up to five pre-paid and sealed packages and deliver them to the nearest shipping destination, whether it's a post office or another shipping provider. Additionally, users have the option to track the courier live, allowing them to monitor the progress of their packages until they reach the post office.
Packages sent through Uber must have a value of less than $100 and weight less than 30 pounds, as stated by the company. The company has announced that all packages will be returned for a flat fee of $5. However, Uber One members enjoy a discounted rate as part of their subscription benefits.
