Saweetie's debut album has been delayed, not because she lacks passion for making music. "Everything now just feels like, 'Make it go viral, go viral, go viral.' OK, cool, go viral. But if your only intention is numbers, what about the art or the reason why we're here today?" Saweetie, 30, shared in an Allure cover story published on Thursday, February 29.

Saweetie, born Diamonté Quiava Valentin Harper, rose to fame in 2017 with her hit song “Icy Girl.” Since then, she has collaborated with big brands like MAC Cosmetics, McDonalds, Crocs, and Candy Crush. However, she expressed feeling pressured to focus more on shoes and makeup, causing a delay in releasing her album, once titled Pretty Bitch Music.

In an interview with Allure, Saweetie shared her frustration, feeling like her team had shifted their attention away from her music. She emphasized the importance of music being a personal and meaningful expression, stating that rushing to finish an album in a short time goes against the authenticity of the art. Saweetie shared with Allure that when she dropped the Single Life EP in 2022, she expected a marketing rollout that never materialized. She expressed feeling abandoned by her label and those close to her, stating there was a lack of public support. Despite this, she mentioned that she has learned to cope with such situations on her own.

After receiving criticism for her live performances, especially during a Triller Fight Club show with Doja Cat, Saweetie decided to join an artist boot camp to enhance her skills. She acknowledged that performing on stage is not as natural for her as rapping in the recording studio, but she is determined to improve because she believes in turning weaknesses into strengths.

Saweetie dropped “Richtivities,” her second single of the year after “Do It for the Bay” with P-Lo in January, on February 23. In an interview with Allure, she mentioned that her previous singles “Shot O’Clock” and “Birthday” were released to gauge her fans' reactions and will not be included in her upcoming album. Furthermore, she disclosed that her album will not be titled Pretty Bitch Music, although the final title is still undecided.
