Episode 34 of Jujutsu Kaisen was a notorious transition episode. After reaching the climax of Satoru Gojo's battle in the previous episode, the show now focuses on setting up what will happen next. However, efforts were made to keep it engaging and maintain a decent pace, providing all the necessary information in one go so that the action can kick off in episode 35.
It may feel overwhelming to process, particularly with the introduction of new characters and the state of each group and their respective plans. Yet, slowing down the pace would have resulted in a lackluster episode. Instead, it leaves fans with a lot to absorb and eagerly anticipate for the upcoming week of Jujutsu Kaisen anime.
Metaphysical Relativity
Another amazing scene unfolds before the opening credits in this episode. It is widely acknowledged that the first few minutes of an episode hold significant influence over viewers' attention and interest for the entire duration, and the second season flawlessly accomplishes this. Within a span of three minutes, fans are treated to the activation of Mechamaru, a captivating conversation between Satoru, Kenjaku, and Mahito, and the completion of a sealing ritual.
Undoubtedly, the highlight of the episode lies in the three-part conversation where Satoru, in an attempt to awaken something inside Geto's body, urges his old friend to resist the unfolding events. In a bizarre turn of events, it appears as if Geto's hand, as if possessed by his presence, moves to strangle himself in a desperate quest for true death. This development contradicts Mahito's explanation of the soul and elicits laughter from Kenjaku, as it is the first time such an occurrence has transpired. However, this fleeting attempt by Geto proves to be short-lived.
Mechamaru's Plan
The ongoing discussion has now delved into a philosophical discourse regarding the accuracy of the essentialist perspective on the soul versus the notion that the body and soul are intrinsically linked. Ultimately, the outcome is an unparalleled viewpoint specific to the realm of Jujutsu Kaisen: a metaphysical relativity contingent upon the utilization of a particular cursed technique. Consequently, there exists no universal truth but rather numerous interpretations of the world. And with this realization, the gate comes to a close.Pandemonium showcased the immense value of Mechamaru's intel. He not only possessed knowledge of all current events but also had a well-prepared plan to aid in Satoru's rescue. The situation demanded it. As later explained, Satoru's absence would lead to the Gojo clan's destruction, with far-reaching implications for the jujutsu society. This extends beyond the individuals he supported and impacts their political standing and available resources. Moreover, his departure disrupted the power balance that had previously kept the antagonistic forces at bay.
To prevent the situation from escalating further, it is crucial to swiftly break the seal. Mechamaru possesses comprehensive knowledge regarding the functionality of the veils, thus necessitating the initial step of attending to them. However, prior to taking any action, it is imperative to inform everyone about Gojo's current state of being sealed. Subsequently, we should prioritize accessing Shibuya through the three nearest stations to avoid encountering the more problematic veils, and also facilitate the evacuation of individuals from the area. However, in order to accomplish this, it becomes essential to overcome and defeat all the curse users affiliated with Pseudo-Geto.
Mahito's Decision
While a faction strategizes a counterattack, the other faction makes a personal and self-centered choice. Both Choso and Mahito harbor a deep desire to take Yuji's life, motivated by their own grudges. From Mahito's standpoint, Sukuna's presence is not imperative for triumph, rather it is a contingent factor. With Sukuna, triumph is assured; however, even without him, victory remains attainable now that Satoru has been imprisoned. Conversely, Jogo remains steadfast in his resolve to proceed with the plan and restore all the collected fingers to Sukuna.
Kenjaku concedes that Mahito is correct. Although Kenjaku would prefer the certain path, he is now compelled to remain by the side of the Prison Realm since it cannot be moved. Consequently, Yuji finds himself confronted by two formidable adversaries who are determined to end his life, as well as another individual who seeks to provide Sukuna with more fingers. There is no favorable escape from this predicament, but at least Yuji has grown significantly stronger compared to his previous state.
New Enemies
In this installment, Kenjaku's forces gain additional curse users, while also reviving those who had previously attacked Jujutsu High. Among the latter, Kiyotaka becomes the unfortunate victim of a brutal stabbing carried out by Haruta Shigemo. Interestingly, Haruta is accompanied by Uraume, a character who has been introduced before but still remains an enigma. Furthermore, the episode introduces a new curse user, Niji Ebina.
In the upcoming episodes, Niji is preparing to face off against Mei Mei and Ui Ui. According to Yuji, Niji's power level surpasses the grasshopper curse, although it may not pose much of a challenge for someone as formidable as Mei Mei. Additionally, new characters, known as the guardians of the veils, were introduced in this episode. They made a brief appearance following the ending. Among them is Ogami, an elderly woman responsible for the veils, along with her grandson and Jiro Awasaka. Their goal is to protect Ogami from Yuji and his companions, ensuring the veils remain undisturbed. These upcoming battles will be the central focus of the next episodes, along with some unexpected surprises.
