Satoru Gojo, a beloved character in Jujutsu Kaisen, meets his demise during the battle of the strongest. However, the series disappoints as it fails to address important unanswered questions. Jujutsu Kaisen is a highly popular anime and manga series, known for its intricate power system and impressive character designs, which has quickly gained a loyal fan base.
Satoru Gojo undeniably plays a significant role in the widespread popularity of the series. He possesses all the qualities that Shonen fans admire: being a teacher, unmatched in combat, having an eccentric personality, and being generous enough to assist those in need. Initially appearing arrogant, Gojo only displays his superiority when confronted by enemies - which can be seen as a positive trait.
Furthermore, the manga concludes the battle between the strongest characters in a tragic manner. Chapter 235 initially suggests Gojo's triumph, but the subsequent chapter unveils a shocking revelation by Gege Akutami. Here, the mangaka presents the least satisfying demise for a beloved character.
How does Gojo die in Jujutsu Kaisen?

In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 236, the story opens as Satoru Gojo engages in a conversation with the spirits of his companions - Geto, Nanami, and Haibara. He also takes the opportunity to say his goodbyes to Riko and Kuroi. However, the narrative swiftly shifts to a sorrowful scene where Gojo's lifeless form is seen sprawled on the ground.
Sukuna elaborates on the method by which Mahoraga's adaptability functions. Its effectiveness is determined by the duration of time that elapses after the Shikigami sustains a strike. Sukuna aimed for the Shikigami to serve as a model example, successfully traversing Gojo's Infinity. Instead of directly assaulting Gojo, Mahoraga focused on the surrounding area.
Consequently, the existence of Gojo's Infinity becomes insignificant as long as he occupies the space within Mahoraga's reach, enabling the severing of anything in that vicinity. Consequently, Gojo is sliced in half, alongside the affected area. Chapter 238 unveils the revelation that Sukuna's technique, "Dismantle," dealt the final blow. Consequently, victory swiftly transfers to Sukuna's possession.
Gojo never doubted his victory

Gojo's arrogance and confidence stem from his unrivaled strength. In Chapter 3, Yuji questions Gojo about his chances of winning against Sukuna. Gojo asserts that even if the King of Curses possesses all 20 fingers' power, the fight will be challenging, but he will ultimately emerge victorious. Remarkably, just before the battle, Gojo boldly declares his triumph.
This demonstrates Gojo's unwavering belief in his own abilities. Interestingly, Sukuna only possesses the power of 19 fingers, while Gojo's prowess is further heightened to 120% through Utahime's cursed technique. However, during his conversation with Geto, Gojo asserts that Sukuna is incredibly formidable and doesn't require the aid of Megumi's powers to defeat him.
The King of Curses, despite being the most powerful sorcerer, pities Gojo for not having the opportunity to fully display his strength. Sukuna, however, withheld his true power while Gojo gave his all. Throughout the battle, Sukuna predominantly relied on the abilities of Mahoraga, enabling him to gain the advantage.
In chapter 237, Sukuna reverts back to his true form and becomes even more formidable. Nevertheless, it remains true that Sukuna relied on Mahoraga's ability to bypass Gojo's barrier.
The battle of domains in the first round proved to be a dreadful defeat for Sukuna, making it clear that Mahoraga was his last resort - or at least that's how Gege intended it to be. Overall, the transition from chapters 235 to 236 was excessively abrupt.
Why is Gojo’s death in Jujutsu Kaisen so underwhelming?
Shueisha
Considering Gojo’s impact, his demise could have been handled much better. Firstly, he dies off-screen, leaving us in the dark about the exact moment and manner of the attack that struck him. While the final outcome was undeniably shocking, it lacked coherence. It became challenging to comprehend the events that unfolded during the battle, leading to our beloved character's unfortunate and gruesome state.
Gojo's final words to his students remain unseen, and the fight between him and the other character holds significant importance for the future of the Jujutsu society. However, the level of impact generated by Gojo's death falls short of expectations. Despite being a beloved character, he fails to achieve any of his goals.
Adding to this, the lack of reactions from his students and other sorcerers is evident. Mei Mei's cursed technique broadcasts the fight to everyone, yet only Yuji's heartbroken expression, Yuta drawing his sword, and Maki trying to console him are shown. The absence of the others' reactions dampens the emotional impact necessary to properly address the tragedy of Gojo's death in Jujutsu Kaisen.
It felt like the sudden inclusion of Gojo's death made the experience even more disappointing. The fight had been progressing perfectly until chapter 235, but then the ending seemed rushed. The only silver lining was that Gojo didn't have any regrets about being defeated by someone stronger. Even up until chapter 239, there hasn't been any reaction shown from Gojo's students.
