Sarah Wayne Callies, aged 46, is opening up about her experience while starring in the Fox show Prison Break. Along with her former costar Paul Adelstein, she launched a podcast called "Prison Breaking" earlier this year. During the Monday, May 20 episode of Rachel Bilson's "Broad Ideas" podcast, Callies shared that the podcast has allowed her to reflect on her early projects. Despite facing challenges like misogyny and being the only woman on the show, she finds value in revisiting her past work.
Callies shared that being an actress on a show with mostly male actors has its challenges. She mentioned a troubling experience where an actor spat in her face, leaving her shocked. She hinted that fans can expect to hear more about this incident on her rewatch podcast in the future.
She also revealed that there were times when she had to come home and calm down her husband, Josh Winterhalt, who wanted to confront someone physically.
Despite facing some challenging moments on set, Callies mentioned that some of her male costars were supportive and gentlemanly, leading her to make lifelong friendships from the show.
On the other hand, Callies shared with Bilson, 42, and Olivia Allen that she initially felt unprepared to revisit her Prison Break past on her podcast. She was concerned it might trigger negative thoughts about what she endured on set and what she may have overlooked or not reported.
We has reached out to Fox for comment.

Prison Break first aired on Fox for four seasons between 2005 and 2009. The show also had a TV movie called The Final Break in 2009, and a fifth season with nine episodes in 2017. Sarah Wayne Callies, Wentworth Miller, and Dominic Purcell were some of the main actors in the series.
The show focused on Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), who intentionally lands himself in prison to help his brother, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell), escape from the inside. Callies portrayed Dr. Sara Tancredi, Michael's wife and a physician at the made-up Fox River State Penitentiary.
Following her role in the show, Callies went on to appear in series like The Walking Dead, Colony, Council of Dads, and The Company You Keep, as well as movies including Whisper, Into the Storm, and The Other Side of the Door.
Some members of the show's cast have shown interest in reviving the series again. However, in November 2020, Miller, who is 51 years old, announced that he would no longer portray Michael Scofield. He explained that he is no longer interested in playing straight characters after publicly coming out as gay in 2013.
When this news broke, Callies, another cast member, shared her support for Miller's decision on Instagram. She posted a heartfelt message affirming that the cast of Prison Break is a welcoming space for LGBTQ+ individuals. Callies expressed her full support for the rights and artistic work of the LGBTQ+ community, standing with them wholeheartedly. She also included a photo of herself and Miller in her post. If anyone has an issue with this inclusive environment, Callies quoted a wise saying, "that's your work."
