Sarah Drew is all set to showcase her detective skills in her upcoming project.
The 43-year-old Grey’s Anatomy star has been chosen to star in her own Hallmark series called Mistletoe Murders, which is based on the popular Audible podcast with the same title. In the show, Drew will play the role of Emily Lane, a Christmas-themed shop owner in a small town. Emily is known to be intelligent, resilient, and perceptive, while also being kind, understanding, and charming with a great, albeit dry, sense of humor.
Emily will be the main character in the show, where she will be investigating local murders with the help of a local police detective and his teenage daughter. Despite appearing as a friendly mystery lover, Emily harbors a secret past that could ruin her new life in Fletcher’s Grove if revealed.
Production for Mistletoe Murders is scheduled to start next month in Toronto. Ken Cuprous will be the creator, showrunner, and executive producer, with Drew also serving as an executive producer. Additionally, Grant Harvey, known for his work on The Way Home, will be part of the series.
Drew's career took off in the early 2000s when she landed her first major role on Everwood. She later gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Dr. April Kepner on Grey's Anatomy for nine seasons. Since then, Drew has starred in leading roles in shows like Cruel Summer and Amber Brown. Additionally, she has taken on roles in various holiday films for Lifetime, including writing and executive producing the film Reindeer Games Homecoming in 2022.
Despite her impressive body of work, Drew has been open about her disappointment in being written off Grey's Anatomy after establishing herself as a beloved character on the show. In November 2023, she shared that the experience was a mix of both a high and low point in her time on the series.
She shared on Jana Kramer’s “Whine Down” podcast that her exit in season 14 of the show was not understood by many. It was a confusing time for her, but she found it to be a mix of pain and joy. Even after knowing she was leaving, she still had a few weeks left on the show and felt grateful for the love and support from fans.
Drew mentioned that although it was heartbreaking to leave the show, she now sees it as a blessing in disguise.
"I really enjoyed my time there. It was such a beautiful experience that I wouldn't trade for anything," she shared. "If I hadn't gone, I wouldn't be doing what I love - writing, producing, and engaging my mind and heart on different levels that have enriched my soul and brought me immense happiness."
Hallmark has not revealed the release date for Mistletoe Murders yet.
