Sam Champion proudly declared himself as the ‘Daddy’ of morning news during a segment on NYC’s Eyewitness News Mornings at 10 on Thursday, February 29. The Good Morning America weatherman humorously gave himself the title.
During the broadcast, Shirleen Allicot, his co-anchor, hinted at a feature coming up about the grand opening of Marcus Samuelsson's newest restaurant, Metropolis. Allicot described the Downtown Manhattan eatery as his latest and most beautiful restaurant while showing footage of the delicious food on camera.
She mentioned that together with Samuelsson, they created a unique dish that she is confident you have never tried before.
Champion eagerly requested, "Yes, please! Is there a drink for the adults too?"
His co-host Mike Marza casually acknowledged the remark and pointed out a wine glass on screen. "Oh! Look at that. Right on cue, a wine glass."
As of now, Champion has not addressed the comment publicly, so it remains uncertain if it was a mistake.
The well-loved TV personality seemed happy and it's fair to say he deserves the title. He has been a familiar face on TV for many years, working as a weatherman for ABC, Good Morning America, and The Weather Channel.
Champion participated in season 31 of Dancing with the Stars, where he competed for the mirrorball trophy. Unfortunately, he was eliminated in week 4.
On Thursday, just hours after the ‘Daddy’ remark, he appeared on GMA alongside Robin Roberts for a seasonal color hack.
