Audrina Patridge’s 15-year-old niece Sadie Loza’s cause of death has been revealed.
The Orange County Sheriff's Department confirmed on November 15th that the teenager died from a narcotic overdose, as reported by various news outlets. TMZ initially broke the news. The authorities also stated that an ongoing investigation is being conducted to ascertain whether there will be any potential criminal charges.
Patridge, who is 38 years old, announced in February that Sadie had passed away. Sadie's death occurred just one week after her 15th birthday. In a heartfelt tribute shared on Instagram, the Hills alum expressed the pain she felt in writing the post. She mentioned that her beautiful niece is now in heaven and acknowledged that saying goodbye for now is incredibly difficult. Patridge also mentioned that while it is not a permanent farewell, they will miss Sadie dearly and will treasure every moment they had with her. The tribute concluded by expressing eternal love for Sadie.
Sadie's mother, Casey Loza, who happens to be Patridge's sister, took to Instagram to announce the news earlier that day. In her heartfelt message, she expressed, "Sadie Raine Loza has departed from this world and ascended to the heavens."
She went on to share, "Writing this has proven to be the most challenging task I've ever faced. Struggling to find the right words, I'll leave you with this beautiful reminder from Sadie: the first law of thermodynamics, commonly known as the Law of Conservation of Energy, applies to all aspects of life. It teaches us that energy cannot be created or destroyed; it only transforms from one form to another."
Casey, who is 37 years old, expressed that "transformation is a more fitting term than death," while acknowledging that Sadie's story will "save numerous lives" and her memory will "always be remembered." Casey ended by saying, "May you rest in peace, luminous starseed. You are now reunited with your creator. We will greatly miss you. I love you."
Casey and her ex-husband Kyle Loza became parents to Sadie in February 2008. They got married in March 2009 and later had another child, a son named Draven, in April 2010. In October 2018, they welcomed their third son, Vallon.
The Patridge family previously appeared on Audrina, a short-lived reality series on Vh1 in 2011. The show consisted of 10 episodes and featured Audrina, Casey, Kyle, Samantha (their sister), Mark (their brother), and their parents, Lynne and Mark Patridge.
In November 2016, Sadie was the flower girl at Patridge's wedding to her ex-husband Corey Bohan. Audrina shared a photo on Instagram of her and Sadie on the dance floor, expressing her love for the picture. She also mentioned trying to teach Sadie some dance moves from her time on Dancing with the Stars. Patridge and Bohan were married for two years before getting divorced in 2018. They have a daughter named Kirra, who is now 8 years old.
After learning about the teenager's passing in February, Audrina's previous colleagues turned to social media to convey their heartfelt condolences for this tragic event.
Kristin Cavallari expressed, "Oh my goodness, this absolutely breaks my heart. Audrina, I am so sorry for your loss. It's truly devastating." In response, Brody Jenner wrote, "Sending love to you and your family."
