Prince William and Princess Kate are instilling their passion for sports in their three children, as they themselves are avid sports enthusiasts.
During a recent episode of Mike Tindall's "The Good, The Bad & The Rugby" podcast, the 41-year-old Prince of Wales expressed how the team environment of sports played a significant role in his own life and upbringing. He emphasized the exhilaration of being in a challenging and competitive atmosphere, where camaraderie and support from teammates were vital elements.
William expressed his fondness for the rollercoaster of emotions and support within their circle, where everyone rallied to include others who were injured or feeling excluded. Inspired by this valuable bond, he eagerly sought to pass on the joy of sports to his and Kate's three children: Prince George, aged 10, Princess Charlotte, aged 8, and Prince Louis, aged 5.
“It’s crucial to focus on building camaraderie, fostering relationships, and learning how to gracefully accept defeat. Nowadays, I believe there is a lack of understanding when it comes to losing. As someone who played rugby during my school days, I feel it is essential, particularly for our children, to grasp this concept from a young age. It is vital for them to comprehend how and why we lose, and then to embrace personal growth through that experience.”
Additionally, the Duke of Cornwall emphasized that he and his spouse, who were married in 2011, also educate their children on the importance of winning with humility and without displaying arrogance during celebratory moments of victory.
On September 6, 2023, a special episode of ‘The Good, The Bad and The Rugby’ podcast was recorded in the Green Drawing Room at Windsor Castle. Among the attendees were Mike Tindall, Princess Anne (Princess Royal), Prince William, Prince of Wales, and Catherine, Princess of Wales. The event was captured by Chris Jackson/Getty Images for Kensington Palace.
Kate, aged 41, also had a sporty upbringing and was amazed to witness George, Charlotte, and Louis enthusiastically engaging in athletics on Saturday.
"It's fascinating to note their distinct temperaments," elaborated the Princess of Wales. "As they continue to grow and explore various sports, it'll be intriguing to witness their growth and development over time."
Will and Kate, who were interviewed by Mike, the husband of Zara Tindall and cohosts James Haskell and Alex Payne, were also joined by Princess Anne. Princess Anne, who is 73 years old, mentioned that the children of Wales have a slight competitive nature.
Kate, on the other hand, stated that she is not a competitive person and she doesn't understand where this idea came from. She referred to previous claims made by Mike on the podcast. She also mentioned that whenever she and Will play tennis, it turns into a mental competition between the two of them.
Kate, however, mentioned that the issue of "parents' races" at George, Charlotte, and Louis' school tends to become intense. "We have already experienced a situation when we were explicitly informed that there would be no parents' race, but then suddenly they organized it at the last minute!" she reminisced. "Perhaps the competitive nature within both of us emerged, and we felt compelled to participate. Consequently, I ended up taking part in the race with bare feet."
