Rose Byrne has expressed interest in a possible sequel to the hit comedy Bridesmaids. Directed by Paul Feig, the movie premiered in 2011 and follows the misfortunes of former pastry chef Annie Walker (Kristen Wiig) as she reluctantly takes on the role of maid of honor at her best friend Lillian's (Maya Rudolph) wedding. Byrne played the role of the wealthy and haughty bridesmaid, Helen Harris III, who continually competes with Annie. The film also starred Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper, and Chris O'Dowd. Despite the absence of any news regarding a Bridesmaids sequel, Byrne has revealed to People that she would be interested in reprising her role in a second film, or working with the cast again in any capacity.
"It's a tough act to follow considering how amazing the first movie was. It was truly enchanting and held a special place in everyone's heart. Perhaps we could collaborate on a different project altogether, maybe a reimagining of sorts. However, I do miss working with all the girls. I recently caught up with Kristen Wiig and it was wonderful seeing her after such a long time. They all hold a dear place in my heart."
Will A Bridesmaids Sequel Ever Get Made?
With over $300 million in box office earnings and two Oscar nominations, Bridesmaids was a major hit and the highest-grossing film produced by Judd Apatow. Given the popularity of the movie and the comedic talent of the cast, it's natural to wonder what a sequel could bring. If Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo returned as writers, and the original stars reprised their roles, it would undoubtedly generate significant interest.
While a Bridesmaids sequel may not be in the works, the original film has become a comedic favorite among audiences with memorable scenes such as the dress shopping and airplane incident. Although a follow-up may not be necessary, it would be intriguing to witness the evolution of Helen and Annie's relationship. Despite the unlikelihood of a Bridesmaids 2, fans can still hold onto the possibility of a reunion in some form.
