Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix are thrilled to announce the arrival of their second child.
According to an exclusive source in the latest issue of We, the couple is overjoyed to be parents. They work together as a team and are fully embracing this new chapter in their lives.
Mara, 38, showcased her baby bump at the premiere of La Cocina at the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this month, gracefully posing on the red carpet.
Already parents to son River, Mara and Phoenix, 49, welcomed their first child in summer 2020, naming him after Phoenix's late brother.
A source told Us exclusively in May 2021 that the river has greatly improved their lives and brought them closer together. They are a private couple who prioritize giving River a normal and healthy upbringing.
The insider mentioned that when it comes to raising their children, Mara and Phoenix intend to maintain a level of privacy.

The source told Us that Mara and Phoenix feel strongly about raising their child out of the spotlight. They believe in letting him decide for himself if he wants to pursue acting when he is older. Additionally, the insider mentioned that the couple had discussed the possibility of having another baby together.
The source revealed that they are hoping for the arrival of their future child sooner rather than later, ideally within the next year. Rooney Mara values her close relationship with her sister Kate Mara and wishes for her son River to have a special bond with his future sibling.
Although Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara have been private about their parenting plans, Phoenix mentioned in June 2021 that he will not pressure his son to adopt his dietary choices if he is not interested.
Phoenix told The Sunday Times that while he hopes his child will be vegan, he believes in not imposing his beliefs on them. He stated, "I don't think that's right. ... So I'm not going to perpetuate the lie, but I'm also not going to force him to be vegan. I'll support him. That's my plan."
The engagement of Mara and Phoenix was confirmed by Us in July 2019. The couple first met in 2016 on the set of Mary Magdalene, where Mara played the titular character and Phoenix portrayed Jesus.
