The movie will essentially be a recap of the events that took place in the anime.

The anime series was produced by CloverWorks and consisted of 12 episodes that aired in Fall 2022. The trailer showcased a brand-new key visual for the film, as well as a lyric video for Kessoku Band's upcoming song, "Hikari no Naka e" (Into the Light).

Bocchi the Rock! originated as a guest work in Houbunsha's seinen magazine Manga Time Kirara Max in December 2017, created by Aki Hamaji. The manga received a full serialization the following March and has since been compiled into five volumes as of December 2022. Yen Press currently publishes the manga in English. The anime adaptation of Bocchi the Rock!, produced by CloverWorks and directed by Keiichirō Saitō with assistance from Yūsuke Yamamoto, aired from October to December 2022, consisting of 12 episodes. Erika Yoshida wrote the scripts, and Kerorira designed the characters. The series opening theme song, "Seishun Complex," was performed by Kessoku Band, the main in-universe musical act, while Kessoku Band also performed four ending themes: "Distortion" from episodes 1-3, "Karakara" from episodes 4-7, "Nani ga Warui" from episodes 8-11, and a special Kessoku Band cover of the ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION song "Korogaru Iwa, Kimi ni Asa ga Furu." After the anime's conclusion, Kessoku Band gained nearly one million Spotify listeners and topped Japan's Weekly Billboard Chart from December 21-28.

Their self-titled album features a number of tracks from the anime series, including the opening theme "Seishun Complex," the first ending "Distortion," and "Guitar, Solitude, and the Blue Planet," among others. The anime has been widely praised for its portrayal of social anxiety, stunning visuals, and comedic elements. In fact, it was named "Anime of the Year" at the 2023 Anime Trending Awards, where it also won seven additional awards, setting a record for the most wins in the history of the event. Fans can look forward to the upcoming Bocchi the Rock! compilation movie, set to release in Spring 2024, as well as a new track from Kessoku Band dropping on Wednesday, May 24.
