Ridley Scott's reaction to Fede Álvarez's upcoming Alien: Romulus film has been unveiled, and it bodes well for the next chapter in the franchise. The series began in 1979 with Scott's renowned film Alien, which follows a crew in space being pursued by the Xenomorph that has infiltrated their vessel. Following the original movie, the franchise produced three additional sequels helmed by other talented directors, as well as several spinoffs, notably the Alien vs. Predator series. In 2012, Scott directed two prequel films for the franchise, and in March 2022, it was announced that Álvarez would be directing a new standalone Alien movie set to release in theaters soon.

According to Collider, Álvarez disclosed during the DGA Latino Summit 2023 while conversing with Guillermo del Toro that he went through the rigorous process of sending the new Alien movie to Scott for his feedback. The Uruguayan filmmaker expressed his desire for Scott to be the first person to view it, despite hearing that Scott is a demanding critic. Fortunately, Scott adored the film, particularly praising the dialogue. Read Álvarez's complete statements below.

"I wanted him to be the first to see it. Everyone warned me that Ridley is extremely critical, especially when it comes to his own films. He was very tough on 'Blade Runner [2049],' which I consider a masterpiece, and he had some issues with it because it's difficult for him to critique his own work... I asked him about the new 'Top Gun,' and he was rather unenthusiastic. I was taken aback and asked why. He responded, 'My brother's film was the original, and this one is just so-so.' While he did have respect for it, his critical nature was evident. So I knew I was unlikely to win him over. Even if he didn't ask for it, I wanted to sit across a table from him and face him directly. I didn't want to receive an email with Ridley's thoughts...

And then he walked into the room and said, 'Fede, what can I say? It's f**king great.' It was truly one of the best moments of my life to have a master like him, whom I greatly admired, watch a film I made, especially something like this... and to have him discuss with me for an hour what he enjoyed about it. One of the best compliments he gave was, 'The dialogue is fantastic. Are you the writer?' Yes!"

Ridley Scott's Jaw-Dropping Reaction to New Alien Movie Will Leave You Speechless

Scott's stamp of approval is a significant endorsement for Álvarez's latest installment, especially considering his influential role in launching the Alien franchise. Speculation about a new Alien movie gained traction in 2019 following Walt Disney Company's acquisition of 21st Century Fox. In early 2022, the release of Álvarez's Alien: Romulus was officially confirmed. Although originally intended for Hulu, the movie's release plans shifted, and it is now set to premiere in theaters on August 16, 2024.

Cailee Spaeny, known for her role in Priscilla, takes the lead in this upcoming film, embodying a bold protagonist reminiscent of Ellen Ripley. Alongside Spaeny, the cast includes familiar names such as Archie Reneaux from Shadow and Bone, Spike Fearn from The Batman, Isabela Merced from Sicario: Day of the Soldado, David Jonsson from Industry, and Aileen Wu.

While previous Alien movies centered on scientists, soldiers, or corporate employees engaged in intense battles against Xenomorphs, the plot for Álvarez's Alien: Romulus has yet to be officially disclosed. However, given Ridley Scott's approval, there is optimism that the film will prove worthwhile when it hits theaters next year.
