Xbox Cloud Gaming will be available on Meta Quest headsets starting in December, allowing players to access cloud-based gaming on the VR devices.
Meta has recently enhanced the performance of the Meta Quest 2 and introduced a new subscription service called Meta Quest+ VR, in order to improve its VR offerings. The anticipated integration of Xbox Cloud Gaming on the Meta Quest is still pending full detailed announcements regarding subscription requirements and game availability.
Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, announced that beginning in December, Xbox Cloud Gaming will be accessible on Meta Quest headsets. This move is part of the company's ongoing effort to enhance its VR offerings, which includes the advancements made to Meta Quest 2 and the introduction of the Meta Quest+ VR subscription service. In 2022, Microsoft had previously disclosed its collaboration with Meta to bring Xbox Cloud Gaming to the Meta Quest 2, allowing users to enjoy cloud-based gaming on their headsets.
Zuckerberg has confirmed that gamers can expect Microsoft's cloud service to be available for Meta Quest headsets in December. Xbox Cloud Gaming is already available for Xbox, mobile, tablets, and smart TVs, making it a highly anticipated addition to Meta Quest. However, Meta has not yet fully announced how the service will be integrated. It remains unclear whether gamers will need to separately subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or if it will be offered as a standalone purchase. It is also uncertain if all games from Game Pass will be available, as Xbox Cloud Gaming is currently part of the service.
This news follows the introduction of Meta's own subscription service, Meta Quest+ VR. In June, the company announced that the service, priced at $7.99 per month (or $59.99 annually), would provide gamers with new titles each month. Games like Pistol Whip and Walkabout Mini Golf were among the initial offerings. This month, subscribers can enjoy Red Matter and A Fisherman's Tale.
In addition to these services, Meta has recently unveiled the release date and specifications for Meta Quest 3. The new device, set to launch on October 10, will be available for $499.99 (128 GB version) to $649.99 (512 GB version). It will bring several enhancements compared to the current Meta Quest 2, including 8 GB of RAM, a second-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon Xr2 chipset, improved resolution, and camera sensors. Despite this powerful upgrade, Meta has assured customers that they will continue to support the current Meta Quest 2, so those who choose not to upgrade will not encounter any issues for the time being.
