Pride Month 2023 is set to kick off in June, and one Fallout 4 player is using the popular RPG to raise awareness for trans rights. While it may not have the same level of popularity as The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, Fallout 4 has a dedicated fan base that continues to create custom mods for the game. The video game industry as a whole has seen a positive shift towards inclusivity, whether through increased accessibility options or better representation of LGBTQ+ characters. Some individuals are taking it upon themselves to address the issues faced by marginalized communities within the gaming world.
Elianora, a user of Nexus Mods, has recently released a mod for Fallout 4 called "Trans Solidarity" to honor Pride Month. The mod includes LGBTQ+ assets, such as a Liberty Pride statue and a PipBoy painted in the colors of the trans flag. Through this mod, the creator aims to raise awareness about the "unprecedented erasure" that many trans individuals still face today. Along with the new workshop items, the mod also offers a Power Armor suit that features the colors of the trans flag. Elianora encourages users to donate to worthy causes while celebrating Pride Month in the world of Fallout.
The gaming industry has seen a rise in the number of LGBTQ+ individuals both as players and professionals. The industry has taken strides towards greater diversity by incorporating gay and lesbian characters, like Ellie from The Last of Us, and allowing players to create gender-fluid or gender non-confirming avatars, such as in Cyberpunk 2077. Fans of the Fallout 4 game are eagerly anticipating its next-gen update for Xbox Series consoles and PS5, expected to release in 2023. In the meantime, players can still celebrate Pride Month in The Commonwealth with Elianora's trans rights awareness mod, available for previous-gen consoles and PC.
Fallout 4 is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
