Maury Povich, known for his iconic paternity tests on his long-running talk show, has now ventured into the world of DNA testing. After the conclusion of his show in September 2022, the 84-year-old host has launched his own line of paternity tests under the name "The Results Are In." This brand is a nod to his famous catchphrase, which he would use before unveiling the truth about someone's paternity on the show.
"I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of DNA testing in reuniting families and changing lives. With 'The Results Are In,' we are committed to making this process more accessible and affordable for everyone," Povich stated in a press release provided to TMZ on Friday, June 23. According to the publication, each kit includes simple instructions on how to collect a DNA sample, which can be sent to a laboratory for analysis. Within two to three business days, the user will receive confidential results with an impressive accuracy rate of 99.99 percent. Povich made the decision to retire in March 2022, six months prior to the final episode of Maury being aired.
"When I was on the verge of retirement six years ago, my NBCUniversal family approached me with a request to keep the show going," he shared in a statement at that time. "Despite expressing my readiness for assisted living, I decided to extend the show for the sake of loyalty towards NBCUniversal and my dedicated team of over 100 staff and crew members. Tracie Wilson and I came to an agreement for one more deal."
Povich jokingly added, "I take immense pride in my long-standing partnership with NBCUniversal and all the individuals who have contributed to the success of the Maury show. However, as I occasionally jest with my guests, 'Enough, already!'"
THE TV personality previously discussed Maury's iconic paternity test gimmick in an interview with Us. According to Povich, he never has knowledge of the DNA test results before his audience does.
During one of his hosting gigs, Maury Povich shared with Us that the most peculiar show he ever hosted involved a set of twins with two different fathers. The episode revolved around a woman named Regina and the father of one of her fraternal twin sons, whom she had briefly been unfaithful to. Both were taken aback when they learned that he was the biological father of just one of the boys.
Povich has expressed his surprise on his show, stating, "I have never had that on my show." Meanwhile, the father, addressing the audience, commented, "One out of two ain't bad." In terms of his personal life, Povich is a father to three children. He has two daughters, Susan and Amy, from his previous marriage to Phyllis Minkoff, and a son named Matthew with his current wife, Connie Chung.
