Having the right backups is crucial, and Microsoft is continuously enhancing them for Windows 11. Whether you're transitioning to new computers or recovering from a catastrophe, a thorough backup can save you valuable time and energy. The operating system is now significantly upgrading its app backup and restoration functionality.
Rolling out under build number 23493, Windows 11 Insiders can now enjoy an enhanced backup and restore system. In addition to backing up apps from the Microsoft Store, users will also have access to a pin for desktop apps installed externally. While the full app won't be backed up, simply clicking on the app icon will prompt a pop-up window, directing users to download the app from the publisher's website. This convenient feature saves users valuable time, eliminating the need to manually search for and download apps outside of the Microsoft Store.
This feature is currently available for Insiders using the Dev branch. It is advisable to wait until it is available to everyone to avoid dealing with any potential issues. The rollout for all users is expected to happen within the next few months.
