There have been bug reports, but they may be resolved in future updates.
A climbing feature has been added to Skyrim through a new mod, aiming to enhance the gaming experience by bringing it closer to modern games. With thousands of mods already available for Skyrim, this particular one focuses on modernizing the gameplay for certain players.
In Skyrim, climbing is usually limited to walking up surfaces at awkward angles, resulting in a visually awkward ascent. Proper climbing mechanics have been missing from the game until now. To address this, a modder has incorporated climbing physics along with corresponding animations.
Reddit user Good_Breakfast8000 recently shared a Skyrim clip showcasing the new mod Skyclimb, created by sokco816. By using Skyclimb in conjunction with other mods, Good_Breakfast8000 demonstrates the climbing functionality in various locations within Whiterun. The video begins with Good_Breakfast8000 ascending the stalls in front of the Whiterun Inn, followed by the same process at Arcadia's Cauldron, another building, and the awning surrounding the Skyrim Gildergreen tree. Notably, Good_Breakfast8000's character can safely jump from the reached areas without incurring fall damage, and the animations exhibit similarities to those found in contemporary games. Skyclimb incorporates the EVG Animated Traversal mod to achieve these animations.
Since its release on July 31, Skyclimb has garnered over 10,000 downloads but has also received several bug reports. These reports highlight issues such as players being reset to their initial climbing position, unintentionally vaulting into tables, and experiencing a softlock when interacting with a Skyrim enchanting table. Given its recent launch, Skyclimb is expected to undergo further adjustments and improvements in order to realize its full potential. Nevertheless, despite these setbacks, Skyclimb's core mechanic appears to function effectively, enabling players to easily access otherwise inaccessible areas.
While the Skyclimb in Whiterun is featured in the Skyrim clip, it may not be fully optimized for all areas of the map. Fortunately, the mod has already received updates, which means that the reported issues might be resolved soon. This mod can be useful for players who want to uncover hidden areas in Skyrim's expansive world or capture breathtaking screenshots from great heights. However, due to the instanced nature of certain zones in Skyrim, this mod may interfere with other aspects of the game and potentially lead to crashes or glitches.
