Nacon has officially unveiled its latest PS5 controller, the Revolution 5 Pro, set to launch in October with a price tag of $200; the same as Sony's premium DualSense Edge controller. The key selling point of this controller lies in its ability to address the stick-drift problems occasionally experienced with DualSense controllers, accomplished through the incorporation of Hall Effect thumbsticks in its design.
Differing from conventional joysticks that employ potentiometers, Hall Effect joysticks utilize a small magnet and sensors to measure the voltage produced by the magnetic field. This typically results in a more robust and long-lasting design for these joysticks, particularly in comparison to regular joysticks that feature contact points susceptible to wear and eventual drifting issues.
Nacon Revolution 5 Pro controller is equipped with a range of impressive features. It offers compatibility with both PS4 and PC, allowing gamers to enjoy their favorite games on multiple platforms. One notable feature is the trigger blocker, which enables users to customize their input by reducing the travel distance. Additionally, the controller provides a wide variety of customization options, enhancing the gaming experience.
To further enhance personalization, the Revolution 5 Pro comes with three sets of weights and three different sticks of varying sizes, allowing gamers to find their perfect balance and control. It also includes three sets of stick heads, offering even more customization possibilities. Furthermore, the controller has four profiles that can be easily saved, catering to different gaming preferences.
Customization is made easy through a dedicated PC and mobile app, enabling users to fine-tune their controller settings according to their preferences. Notably, the Revolution 5 Pro boasts a unique D-pad design, developed in partnership with professional fighting games player Mister Crimson, adding a touch of exclusivity to the controller.
Yannick Allaert, Nacon's head of accessories, expressed the company's dedication to creating the ultimate gaming controller. "This new model in the Revolution line is the culmination of years of development and NACON's passion for gaming. We wanted to create the best controller possible, a controller that would give gamers the upper hand. The Revolution 5 Pro combines the best of our expertise, technological innovation, and ergonomics," Allaert stated in a press release.
The next generation of gaming consoles is expected to feature Hall Effect sensors, with rumors suggesting that the upcoming Nintendo Switch successor will incorporate this technology following the emergence of a patent application online. While it remains uncertain whether the next Xbox controller will adopt Hall Effect sensors, leaked court documents from the FTC's case against Microsoft reveal that the company has been developing a new controller design with an accelerometer and enhanced haptic feedback technology for a more immersive gaming experience.
