Revolutionary Leap: Bandai Unveils Striking New Gundam Mini Series Powered by Unreal Engine 5

Bandai unveils an exhilarating six-episode miniseries, Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance, set in the captivating Universal Century Experience the epic tale brought to life with the groundbreaking Unreal Engine 5 technology Get ready for an immersive adventure like never before!

During the 2023 Anime Expo industry panel, Bandai unveiled Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance, a fresh anime series. The miniseries will consist of six episodes, each with a runtime of approximately 30 minutes. Setting it apart from its predecessors, the entire production of this Gundam installment will utilize Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5.

This announcement coincides with the conclusion of another significant Gundam series, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury. The tremendous triumph of The Witch from Mercury, evident in its impressive viewership and merchandise sales, makes this the opportune moment to introduce a new project amidst the franchise's soaring popularity.

Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance is set in the well-known Universal Century timeline, specifically in U.C. 0079. The story takes place approximately eleven months after the Revolutionary War. Similar to Mobile Suit Gundam: Origin, this series will offer a perspective from the Zeon army, specifically through the eyes of Iria Sorari, a Zaku pilot who was active on the European Front during the One-Year War.

Additionally, Gavin Hignight, the writer of Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance, has cited heavy inspiration from Mobile Suit Gundam: Thunderbolt and the miniseries Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team. Although not major Gundam series, these two are considered hidden gems by many fans of the franchise.

Directed by German artist Erasmus Brosdau, Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance marks Gundam's first venture into Unreal Engine 5 technology. Brosdau, known for his acclaimed Warhammer 40K short film "The Lord Inquisitor: Seed of Ambition", is well-suited to lead this project. In a video message showcased at the 2023 Anime Expo and subsequently released on Gundam's official YouTube channel, Brosdau highlighted Unreal Engine 5's capacity to generate hyper-realistic visuals, enabling viewers to feel immersed in the Zaku's cockpit. Additionally, Brosdau expressed appreciation for the engine's ability to expedite production, allowing for a faster creation process for the series.

Bandai has not yet announced the official release date for this miniseries. However, Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance will be released as an Original Net Animation. The streaming platform that will have the opportunity to release this series has not been officially announced. Please stay tuned for further updates on Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance.
