The Saints Row series has been facing challenges since the release of Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell. It veered off course by shifting focus from the gang storyline in Saints Row 2 to a literal journey through hell itself. While some players enjoyed the crazier direction the franchise took, others longed for a return to a more grounded and realistic narrative. Furthermore, Volition painted themselves into a corner by making the Third Street Saints the rulers of the United States.

Saints Row required a certain degree of reinvention, but the approach taken with the reboot was not the right choice.
