Dune: The Sisterhood, the Dune prequel series, has received a positive update after facing several challenges in recent months. Taking place 10,000 years before Denis Villeneuve's Dune film, the series delves into the origins of the first Bene Gesserit sect, which emerged from the Harkonnen Sisters. Unfortunately, Dune: The Sisterhood has experienced setbacks as key individuals involved in the project resigned.
However, an encouraging report from Deadline brings news about the cast of Dune: The Sisterhood. Olivia Williams, known for her role in The Crown, will now lead as Tula Harkonnen, while Jodhi May from The Witcher has been cast as Natalya. Shirley Henderson and Indira Varma, who initially played Tula and Natalya respectively, stepped down earlier this year. Moreover, Anna Foerster has joined the team as the director for the series premiere and other episodes in the first season.
What To Expect From Dune: The Sisterhood
Williams, May, and Foerster have been added to the cast of Dune: The Sisterhood after facing several production challenges. In March, the series experienced a setback when director Johan Renck departed the project, despite originally signing up to direct the first two episodes. Co-creator Diane Ademu-John also stepped down as showrunner, leaving Alison Schapker to take on the role alone.
Nevertheless, the fact that the lead roles in Dune: The Sisterhood are being recast and that Foerster has joined as a director indicates that the show is back on track. Although there is no official release date for the Dune prequel series, the latest updates suggest that it is still scheduled to premiere in the future. However, it remains uncertain whether other external factors, such as the ongoing writers strike, could cause additional production challenges in the future.
With the release of Dune: Part Two in theaters on November 3, 2023, there is a chance that the film will provide clues about what can be anticipated in Dune: The Sisterhood. However, considering that Dune: The Sisterhood is set 10,000 years prior to Paul Atreides joining the Fremen, it is also plausible that Dune: Part Two will not explicitly reference the forthcoming prequel. Regardless, it appears that Dune: The Sisterhood is now focused on expanding the Dune franchise into the realm of television.
