Rehabilitation Chronicles: Can Fans Expect a Friday Sequel on Netflix?

Get ready to laugh out loud with the highly anticipated sequel, Straight Outta Rehab! Speculation is rife that this uproarious comedy will make its way to Netflix, adding to the excitement surrounding the long-awaited Last Friday franchise

Wow! Last Friday has been in the making for years, but there are whispers of a sequel titled Straight Outta Rehab heading to Netflix. Is this actually happening?

The original Friday film hit theaters in 1995, featuring Ice Cube and Chris Tucker as laid-back slackers spending a high and unemployed Friday afternoon trying to repay a drug debt to avoid being killed by 10pm.

Under the direction of F. Gary Gray, the film achieved great success, receiving praise from both critics and audiences and earning over $27 million globally. This also led to the production of two additional movies in 2000 and 2002, and a brief animated series in 2007. Despite this, the fourth installment, Last Friday, has faced challenges in development since the late 2010s. Nonetheless, there are rumors circulating about a potential sequel titled Straight Outta Rehab coming to Netflix.

Is Straight Outta Rehab coming to Netflix?

No, Straight Outta Rehab isn’t coming to Netflix, nor will any Friday sequel be released any time soon.

A concept poster for a new Friday movie was shared by Harold Rico Knight on Facebook, generating over 16,000 shares and thousands of comments. Unfortunately, it falsely claimed that the film was premiering on Netflix last Friday (December 8), but we regret to inform you that it's not available on the streaming platform... because it doesn't actually exist.

A sequel may still happen in the future. Last Friday was given the green light in 2017, and Ice Cube announced that production would begin by the end of the following year. By 2019, the script had been completed, and the actor hoped for a 2020 release to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the original film.

Following the death of Tommy Lister Jr., who played the beloved Deebo, Angela Means, the actress who portrayed Felicia, feared that the project would be canceled. However, in 2021, Ice Cube disclosed that he had written two scripts, one centered on Craig and Day-Day in prison, and the other telling a love story.

Last October, Ice Cube revealed that Warner Bros had turned down his ideas for the film. Though Chris Tucker and his co-star remain on good terms, it is uncertain whether he would return to play his role if the movie were to be made. As an enthusiastic fan of the Friday franchise, I was thrilled to hear the rumors about a potential sequel titled Straight Outta Rehab coming to Netflix. The original film from 1995 holds a special place in my heart, and I have been eagerly anticipating the next installment for years. The thought of seeing Ice Cube and Chris Tucker back on screen together, reprising their iconic roles as Craig and Smokey, fills me with excitement and nostalgia.

However, my excitement was short-lived when I learned that the news about the sequel was false. The concept poster shared on Facebook turned out to be a hoax, and there is no confirmation from Netflix or any official sources about a new Friday movie. This news is truly disappointing, as I had already started imagining the hilarious antics and witty dialogues that would undoubtedly be part of the sequel.
