Highlights

Red Dead Redemption has finally been updated to support 60 FPS on PlayStation 5, addressing a major drawback of the recent ports.

Despite these improvements, fans are still dissatisfied with the absence of multiplayer and the lack of other enhancements in the ports. Furthermore, the update offers the ability to enable subtitles and addresses general bug issues.

Rockstar has finally addressed the long-standing demand of fans by quietly introducing a highly requested feature in an update for Red Dead Redemption. Despite initial disappointment with the ports of the game in August, particularly for current generation consoles, an unexpected update has brought hope to players. Speculation has been rife since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, with many anticipating a remake or remaster of its predecessor which was released over a decade ago. However, Rockstar's recent announcement shattered these hopes, revealing that Red Dead Redemption will only be returning through PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch ports. While these ports were slightly enhanced, they fell short of the traditional standards expected of a remaster, with PlayStation 5 players being limited to a capped 30 FPS version. Luckily, Rockstar has now rectified this drawback.

Hours after making the patch available, the official Rockstar Twitter account confirmed that Red Dead Redemption, along with the Undead Nightmare DLC, can now be played in 60 FPS on PlayStation 5. The small update also enables subtitles to be activated when initially starting the game and includes unspecified bug fixes. Physical copies of the ports will be available for purchase starting on October 13th.

While the increased framerate is welcomed, it only addresses one of the many criticisms that have been raised regarding the recent ports. Many fans of the series were puzzled by the decision to skip releasing the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, considering the demand for Red Dead Redemption's return. Additionally, despite offering virtually no new features compared to the 2010 version, the Red Dead Redemption ports were priced at $50, which many found to be excessively high, especially considering the lack of multiplayer. Furthermore, Red Dead Redemption is still not accessible on PC.
