Check out this playful poster for Zack Snyder's upcoming space opera, Rebel Moon. Originally intended as a more mature Star Wars film but rejected by Lucasfilm, the story follows the enigmatic Kora (portrayed by Sofia Boutella) as she leads a rebellion against a tyrannical ruling force. Set to be released on Netflix in two parts, titled A Child of Fire and The Scargiver, the movie is set to hit screens this December. Prior to its release, a fan-made poster, shared on Instagram by @TheWeeklyPlanet, provides a refreshing and honest take on the film. Take a look below!
The fan-made poster replaces the title with "Sexy Star Wars," echoing star Ed Skrein's description of Rebel Moon as a mix of Star Wars, sex, violence, and swearing. It also substitutes the original tagline, "War comes to every world," with "What if Star Wars had elements of Dune and the Chronicles of Riddick?"
Rebel Moon's Other Influences Explained
Although the origins of Rebel Moon as a Star Wars movie are well-documented and widely discussed, Snyder's sci-fi epic draws inspiration from various other sources. Snyder initially presented Lucasfilm with a proposal for a more mature version of Star Wars, heavily influenced by the works of Akira Kurosawa, which he referred to as "Seven Samurai in space." However, Lucasfilm rejected the pitch, allowing Snyder to transform his idea into a distinct sci-fi universe with a darker tone. Snyder has already planned extended and R-rated cuts of Rebel Moon, citing Terry Gilliam’s director’s cut of his 1985 film Brazil as a source of inspiration.

The Rebel Moon poster, created by fans, cleverly highlights two additional influences on the film. While Snyder has not openly acknowledged Dune as a direct inspiration, it is evident that Frank Herbert's groundbreaking science fiction novel from 1965, predating the release of Star Wars, has undoubtedly shaped Rebel Moon. Furthermore, the sci-fi epic The Chronicles of Riddick also appears to have left an imprint on Snyder's creation, as evidenced by the trailer showcasing visually striking shots of alien worlds with a wide range of color saturation. Snyder, known for drawing inspiration from a diverse range of sources throughout his career, continues this tradition with Rebel Moon.
