Robert Downey Jr.'s Oppenheimer Character Explained

Within the clip package, there is a closer look at Robert Downey Jr.'s character, who appears to exhibit antagonism towards Oppenheimer's experiments conducted at Los Alamos.Robert Downey Jr. has always been a captivating presence among the ensemble of the Oppenheimer cast. Having been absent from the silver screen since the controversial flop of his high-profile film Dolittle in early 2020, his comeback in a weighty dramatic role has naturally piqued curiosity. In the upcoming film, Downey Jr. will portray Lewis Strauss, a historical figure who played a significant role on the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. The newly released footage hints at a scene from Strauss' early days as a commission member, before he went on to become the chairman and eventually the United States Secretary of Commerce under President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Interestingly, the movie portrays Downey Jr.'s character as somewhat of an antagonist, reflecting the real-life relationship Strauss had with Oppenheimer. Strauss played a pivotal role in the hearings that ultimately resulted in Oppenheimer losing his security clearance in 1954. These important events will likely be depicted in the film, which spans a period of approximately 45 years.
