Article Key Points
The Five Nights at Freddy's franchise has grown since 2014 and now includes over 130 animatronics across 13 official games.
Popular and well-known animatronics such as Freddy Fazbear, Marionette, Golden Freddy, and Springtrap have tremendously influenced the lore of the franchise and are widely regarded as the highest-ranking characters.
On the other hand, lesser-known animatronics including Balloon Boy, Mangle, Shadow Freddy, Candy Cadet, and the Endoskeletons have experienced a decline in popularity and currently reside at the lower end of the tier list.
Beginning in 2014, the Five Nights at Freddy's universe has greatly expanded, bringing an increase in the number of characters. Fans have been enjoying a wide selection of animatronics since the release of the second game. Starting with the original five, the crew has now grown to over 130 animatronics, providing an abundance of entertaining, adorable, and frightening options.
With a total of 13 official Five Nights at Freddy's games and over 130 animatronics, it is impossible to list every single one. However, this list will feature animatronics from FNAF 1-4, Sister Location, Pizzeria Simulator, and Security Breach. It will include iconic animatronics, those that induce terror, and those that simply fulfill their role effectively.
S-Tier
Freddy Fazbear
Marionette
Golden Freddy
Springtrap
These four animatronics hold an enduring status within the franchise and its mythology. Of course, it is only fitting for Freddy Fazbear himself to claim the top spot. After all, it is his pizzeria, and his presence has been a constant in every installment of the Five Nights at Freddy's series.
A-Tier
The Marionette and Golden Freddy have contributed significantly to the intricately woven narrative of Five Nights at Freddy's, captivating devoted fans. For ages, their tragic tales have been analyzed and speculated upon. As Springtrap emerges as the mastermind orchestrating the gruesome events, no character could conclude the initial and paramount chapter more effectively.
Bonnie
Foxy
Circus Baby
RWQFSFASXC/Shadow Bonnie
Bonnie remains a beloved character for fans across all games, even in his absence. The original Security Breach game faced backlash for not including Bonnie, leaving fans eager to see Monty take his place. Foxy is equally iconic, as the only animatronic known to directly charge at the player in the first game. Circus Baby's introduction sparked numerous inquiries and theories, while her storyline in Sister Location left fans scrambling to piece together the clues that revealed her true identity as Elizabeth Afton. Additionally, Shadow Bonnie gained significant popularity through the AR game, where many speculated his presence represented deep torment and anguish.
B-Tier
The Glamrocks
Balloon Boy
Mangle
Shadow Freddy
When Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach was released, anticipation ran high among players eager to immerse themselves in the game's modernized setting. Despite the initial technical issues, the franchise's refreshed appearance thrilled devoted fans. Balloon Boy, on the contrary, is playfully despised by many, yet his presence is what solidifies his status as a fan favorite. Mangle, another character from the game, swiftly gained adoration from members of the LGBTQ+ community when creator Scott Cawthon confirmed their gender as "Yes." In the early days of the FNAF fandom, hoaxes proliferated, casting doubt on the existence of Shadow Freddy. However, Shadow Freddy does indeed exist, occupying a reputable place as a B-tier animatronic.
C-Tier
Candy Cadet
Nightmarionne
Nightmare Fredbear, the horrifying animatronic, instilled fear without the need for any additional downloadable content. Candy Cadet, on the other hand, offered players the opportunity to uncover hidden tales that shed light on the game's lore. Moreover, Scott Cawthon's release of the Halloween DLC for Five Nights at Freddy's 4 introduced Nightmarionne, one of the most terrifying animatronics in the franchise.
D-Tier
Plushtrap
Nightmare Balloon Boy
Lolbit
Rockstar Line
Mediocre Melodies
The Phantoms
Endoskeletons
Both Plushtrap and Nightmare Balloon Boy gradually faded into the background of the franchise, overshadowed by their fellow animatronics in the other Nightmare lines. Unfortunately, the same fate befell the entire Rockstar animatronic line from Five Nights at Freddy's: Pizzeria Simulator. Lolbit, on the other hand, was more of a niche animatronic, making rare surprise appearances and being treated as an Easter egg rather than a significant character.
Sinking into irrelevance, the Mediocre Melodies, Phantoms, and Endoskeletons all found themselves at the bottom of the ladder. The Mediocre Melodies lived up to their name, with Mr. Hippo being the only animatronic from that line to capture any player's attention due to his lengthy death lines in the challenging game Ultimate Custom Night. The Phantom animatronics could have easily been left behind in FNAF 3 without much notice, despite their unique mechanic that piqued some interest. As for the Endoskeletons, they were more of rare Easter eggs than actual threats since they were unable to kill players.
Five Nights at Freddy's is a popular first-person survival horror and resource management game developed by Scott Cawthorn. It gained fame for its eerie animatronic adversaries and multitude of heart-stopping jumpscares. Captivating players with its cast of beloved characters, including Freddy Fazbear, Chica, Foxy, Bonnie, and more, the franchise has achieved immense success and spawned various spinoffs and fan-made creations.
Editor's P/S
As a passionate fan of the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise, I am thrilled to see the release of this comprehensive tier list ranking the animatronics. The author has done an excellent job of capturing the essence of each character and placing them in their appropriate tier.
I agree with the S-Tier ranking of Freddy Fazbear, Marionette, Golden Freddy, and Springtrap. These animatronics are truly iconic and have played a significant role in the lore and mythology of the franchise. Freddy Fazbear is the face of the franchise and his presence has been a constant in every installment of the series. The Marionette and Golden Freddy have both contributed significantly to the intricate narrative of Five Nights at Freddy's, captivating devoted fans with their tragic tales and mysterious origins. Springtrap is the perfect antagonist to conclude the initial chapter of the series, as he emerges as the mastermind orchestrating the gruesome events.
I also agree with the A-Tier ranking of Bonnie, Foxy, Circus Baby, and RWQFSFASXC/Shadow Bonnie. These animatronics are all well-known and have made a significant impact on the franchise. Bonnie is a beloved character for fans across all games, and his absence in Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach was met with backlash from fans.
Overall, I think this tier list is a great resource for fans of the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise. It provides a comprehensive ranking of the animatronics and captures the essence of each character. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in the franchise.
