Despite the success of Psychonauts 2 and other games funded through platforms like Kickstarter and Fig, some fans are unsatisfied with the rewards they receive. Backers of Psychonauts 2 were promised various rewards such as plushies, art books, and physical copies of the game. However, the delivery of physical copies has left some backers unhappy.

A Reddit user named Thesaxmaniac recently shared a photo of their physical copy of Psychonauts 2. Thesaxmaniac, who was one of the $100 backers known as Psi-cadets, had requested a physical edition for PC and Mac. However, what they received in the mail was not exactly what they had expected. Instead of a traditional disc, the physical copy came in the form of a USB drive accompanied by a Psychonauts 2-themed keychain. This differs from the original Psychonauts, which came in a box with a disc. Although it is unclear what kind of tin the USB is resting in, it is likely adorned with Psychonauts 2 artwork to match the keychain. Thesaxmaniac mentioned that they weren't anticipating a large PC box since fans could obtain that through other means, but they had hoped for a DVD case. They also confirmed that they have an external disc drive for playing games. However, since most modern PCs have USB ports rather than disc drives, this physical edition should still be playable for anyone who supported the game.

Although Thesaxmaniac did not receive a physical copy, backers of the Psychonauts 2 collector's edition may have received what they were hoping for. Thesaxmaniac believes that a higher tier reward was expected rather than the $100 tier. With support from over 24,000 backers, some may still be awaiting their rewards. The reason for the delay in receiving rewards for Thesaxmaniac and others remains unclear, particularly because Fig no longer participates in crowdfunding.
