Jane Austen’s literary works have inspired numerous successful adaptations in film and television, with one notable example being the 2005 film adaptation of Pride & Prejudice.

Pride & Prejudice closely follows Austen’s novel from 1818 of the same name. The story revolves around Elizabeth Bennet (played by Keira Knightley), who faces immense pressure from her mother to find suitable husbands for herself and her four sisters among the wealthy gentlemen in town. Elizabeth's older sister, Jane (played by Rosamund Pike), finds a strong connection with Charles Bingley (played by Simon Woods), much to their mother's delight. However, this also leads to Elizabeth spending more time with Fitzwilliam Darcy (played by Matthew Macfadyen), who initially finds her presence "barely tolerable."

The 2005 adaptation of "Pride & Prejudice" was directed by Joe Wright and written by Deborah Moggach and Emma Thompson.

During a January 2019 interview with BBC Radio 1, Knightley expressed her enthusiasm for the film, stating, "Pride & Prejudice was amazing because I had been obsessed with it since I was 8. It was also the first time I had the opportunity to work with people my own age who shared the same interests."
