Fans of the series are eagerly anticipating the return of the Dorohedoro anime with the announcement of its second season on January 9, 2024. Although no release date has been confirmed, it was revealed that the second season has been in production for some time, indicating that it should be returning soon. However, details such as streaming availability, cast and staff, and the animation studio responsible for the new season were not included in the announcement.
With the confusing rumors surrounding the production of One Punch Man season 3, fans are unsure of whether or not MAPPA will return to the second season of Dorohedoro.
Dorohedoro season 2 could be adapted by a new studio given how busy MAPPA is over next few years
Will MAPPA animate season 2? Explored
Although it may not seem important, the fact that MAPPA Studios animated the first season of Dorohedoro is worth noting, considering their busy schedule for the upcoming years. Since the creator of the Dorohedoro manga, Q Hayashida, has confirmed that season 2 of the anime has been in production for a while, it is highly probable that MAPPA Studios will be returning. If there had been a change in the animation studio for the series, it would have been announced when the second season was being produced.

It is possible that MAPPA has exited the production of the anime and may be waiting to officially announce this development at a later time. This speculation is fueled by the packed schedule that MAPPA has for the coming years, which includes projects like Lazarus, Jujutsu Kaisen season 3, Hell’s Paradise season 2, the Chainsaw Man film and season 2, and more.
MAPPA's involvement with Dorohedoro has been called into question, with rumors suggesting that the studio has also signed on for the production of One Punch Man season 3. Despite official denials of these rumors, it raises the possibility that MAPPA Studios may not be interested in taking on additional projects in the near future, potentially affecting the adaptation of Hayashida's original manga series for a second season.
However, there is a possibility that MAPPA might decide to outsource the production for the upcoming second season of the series in order to prioritize their larger projects. Despite the initial popularity of the anime adaptation of Hayashida’s manga series, it has been more than three years since the show first aired.
Despite this, the continued popularity of Dorohedoro is bound to entice MAPPA to at least consider creating a second season due to the financial benefits. In related news, Ryu Nakayama, the former director of the Chainsaw Man anime, recently departed MAPPA Studios to launch Andraft, a new animation production creative unit.
To avoid further staff turnover, MAPPA may decide to decline the production of the anime's second season despite the potential financial gains. However, it is highly probable that MAPPA has indeed resumed production for the second season.
Be sure to keep up with all anime, manga, film, and live-action news as 2024 progresses.
Editor's P/S
As a huge fan of the Dorohedoro anime, I am thrilled to hear about the announcement of its second season. The first season was a masterpiece, and I can't wait to see what the second season has in store. I am particularly excited about the possibility of MAPPA returning to animate the second season. MAPPA did an incredible job with the first season, and I believe they are the best studio to bring the second season to life.
However, I understand that MAPPA has a very busy schedule, and I am concerned that they may not have the time to work on the second season of Dorohedoro. If MAPPA is unable to animate the second season, I hope that another studio will be able to do it justice. Dorohedoro is a unique and special anime, and it deserves to be animated by a studio that is passionate about the series.
