On the set of Platonic, Tre Hale had the opportunity to work with Hollywood heavyweights Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen. Despite their fame, Hale found both Byrne and Rogen to be incredibly approachable and humble. During his time on set, Hale took advantage of asking numerous questions, and he commends both actors for their kindness and support. They made sure that as a newcomer, Hale felt at ease and empowered in the decisions he made.
Hale co-stars in the recently launched May series on Apple TV+ alongside the duo. Byrne and Rogen portray Sylvia and Will, childhood best friends who reunite in adulthood, while Hale takes on the role of Andy, Will's friend and business partner.
Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen star in the Apple TV+ series "Platonic." Although this isn't Hale's first TV role, he sought advice from his co-stars. Hale reminisced about asking Seth for acting tips and how he was initially confused by his response. Seth advised Hale to "do nothing" in a scene, which Hale struggled to comprehend since he believed he needed to actively do something.
Rogen, however, clarified that newer actors often tend to "overdo" their performances in order to attract attention and establish their reputation.
"It was a small piece of advice, which could be interpreted differently by some actors," Hale shared. "But for me, it provided a great deal of perspective and assistance. He shared this gem with me early on, around episode 2 I believe. I carried it with me throughout the rest of the season, and I consider myself very fortunate to have received it."
As for Byrne, Hale said that she was a “leader” during production, setting the standard for everyone else on set with her kindness.
Hale spoke highly of [her], praising her kindness, class, and versatility as an actor in various genres. He acknowledged her ability to excel in comedy, horror, and drama, and expressed admiration for her talent, considering her one of the greatest actors ever. Hale also found it remarkable that she was approachable, willing to engage in conversations and improvisation with a young actor like himself.
Having harbored a belief in the saying "never meet your heroes," Hale was pleasantly surprised when he encountered Byrne and Rogen during his time on Platonic. Reflecting on the experience, he shared, "I had reservations, hoping that they wouldn't disappoint since I greatly admire and idolize them." However, his fears were unfounded as they turned out to be the complete opposite. "They have become genuine friends of mine. I feel comfortable reaching out to them for anything, and I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have met and worked with them."
