Percy Jackson Impresses with Stellar Rotten Tomatoes Score

Percy Jackson & the Olympians makes a triumphant debut with an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score, winning over both dedicated fans and critics alike

The long-awaited debut of Percy Jackson & The Olympians has not disappointed fans and critics alike, with Rotten Tomatoes praising the adaptation of Rick Riordan's beloved book series. This highly anticipated show has been a standout addition to Disney Plus in recent years.

Synopsis for Season 1: 12-year-old Percy Jackson, a modern demigod, must come to grips with his newfound divine abilities when he is accused by Zeus of stealing his master lightning bolt. With the help of his friends, Percy sets out to restore order to Olympus. The 2010 movie starring Logan Lerman was a disappointment for many, but the newly premiered TV series is being well-received by both fans and critics.

Percy Jackson gains a fresh Rotten Tomatoes score

The debut season of Percy Jackson & the Olympians has garnered impressive reviews, earning a Fresh 97% Critics Score on Rotten Tomatoes. This surpasses the original movie, which only achieved a score of 48%.

Although an Audience Score has not been released yet, there have been 34 positive reviews from critics on the site. According to Dais Johnston of Inverse, "Percy Jackson and the Olympians, a flawless adaptation of Rick Riordan's mythological fantasy book series, may have what it takes to challenge the throne and provide the next generation with a new franchise that will grow with them, similar to the Harry Potter series."

Dan Fienberg of The Hollywood Reporter praised the film for its careful targeting of a younger demographic and its ability to honor the relatable aspects of the source material while adding a dose of fantastical whimsy. He also noted that the film made very few changes that would cause outrage.

According to Entertainment Weekly, one of Percy Jackson’s biggest achievements is its ability to make Percy's coming-of-age story feel just as epic as the legends from Mount Olympus.

Slant's only negative review criticized the series for lacking coherent world-building and quicksilver pacing found in the novels. On the other hand, fans have been expressing their excitement and positivity on social media, with one fan declaring the first episode of Percy Jackson as "the best thing I’ve ever seen in my life" just five minutes in.

“And THAT’S how you make a book to series adaptation,” another said.

Editor's P/S

As a passionate fan of the Percy Jackson book series, I was thrilled to hear about the release of the new TV series on Disney Plus. The impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 97% for the first season has only heightened my excitement and anticipation. The positive reviews from critics and fans alike are a testament to the faithfulness of the adaptation and its ability to capture the essence of Rick Riordan's beloved characters and stories.

I am particularly impressed by the praise for the show's careful targeting of a younger demographic while still honoring the relatable aspects of the source material. This delicate balance is crucial in ensuring that the series appeals to both longtime fans and newcomers to the Percy Jackson universe. The fact that the show has managed to achieve this without making significant changes that would outrage fans is a commendable feat.
