Guardiola hinted that his time in Manchester may be coming to an end after his team won the title. He mentioned that he is leaning towards leaving rather than staying. Guardiola has been with the team for almost nine years now, and he expressed his desire to stay for at least one more season.

In the world of elite football management, it is uncommon for a manager to remain in charge of a team for an extended period due to the high demands of the job.

Guardiola mentioned, "We have discussed with the club about the possibility of continuing next season. I need to assess the players and see if they are willing to stay with me. I am eager to stay for the upcoming season."

‘Second to none’

Historically these last 15 years have been extraordinary for Manchester City fans.

Challenging for league titles has not been a common occurrence for City, often in the shadow of their crosstown rival United.

However, everything changed for City in 2008 when the club received a significant financial boost from its new owners based in Abu Dhabi. This transformation led to City's first Premier League title win in the 2011-12 season, with Sergio Agüero's iconic last-minute goal etching its place in football history as one of the most dramatic season endings.

Guardiola’s arrival in 2016 was the turning point for the club, leading them to become serial winners.

City had already conquered the domestic leagues, but the ultimate goal was continental glory. In 2023, they achieved this by winning their first European Cup final, making them only the second English club to complete the ‘Treble’ as Champions League, FA Cup, and Premier League winners.

The Spaniard's winning mentality became a habit for City, helping to eliminate any lingering doubts surrounding the club.

Sunday's title victory, where City finished two points ahead of Mikel Arteta's Arsenal, once again showcased the team's dominance.

Guardiola has once again showcased his coaching genius through players like Erling Haaland, Joško Gvardiol, and Phil Foden, who have excelled in their respective roles on the team.

However, City's success has been overshadowed by the Premier League's accusations in February 2023. The club has been accused of breaking over 100 financial rules, including not providing accurate financial information, failing to comply with UEFA's financial fair play regulations, and not following Premier League rules on profit and sustainability.

The league referred City to an independent commission. The club has continuously denied any wrongdoing and a conclusion to their case reportedly remains some time away.

‘I have a contract’

Departing West Ham manager David Moyes, whose side was defeated by City on the final day of the season, said Guardiola is “second to none.”

“There used to be an argument that clubs couldn’t win the title back-to-back,” he told We. “He has blown that sky-high. Four in a row is incredible.

Guardiola is not only admired for his coaching skills in football, but also for his ability to effectively manage players and keep them in line. It seems like he has some sort of magical control over them, as they always follow his lead without hesitation.

City has the chance to finish off another successful season by adding more silverware to their collection with a potential win in the upcoming FA Cup final against rival United on Saturday.

Guardiola and winning are often linked together, but the 53-year-old acknowledges that it can also come with its own challenges.

During his press conference after Sunday's title win, Guardiola reflected on feeling this way last season after achieving the treble. He shared, "We were in Istanbul and I thought, 'It's over. What am I doing here? There is nothing left.' But I have a contract. I am here and still finding joy in some moments, even if I feel tired at times."

"We started playing well after a few days, winning games with different players. It got us thinking, no one has ever done four wins in a row. Why not give it a shot? Now, I have a feeling it's accomplished. What comes after that? I'm not sure at the moment. But one thing I do know is the FA Cup."

So, what lies ahead for City and Guardiola?

"But, looking ahead to the next season, I can't predict where the motivation will come from. Sometimes it's hard to find when everything seems to be in place.

"I do know one thing though, both the players and I will be there asking ourselves, why not win today? Why not give it our all and do what needs to be done?"
