Peaky Blinders film – All the latest updates

Get ready for the highly anticipated Peaky Blinders movie, as the gang's story continues on the big screen Discover the release date, star-studded cast, and thrilling plot of this upcoming film

The popular series Peaky Blinders is not ending any time soon, as it is set to have its own movie. Here's what we know about it so far. After a decade of dominating both the BBC and Netflix, the series has only been off the air for a year, but it's already making a comeback.

The series takes place in post-World War I Britain, where a mix of despair and hedonism reigns. Returning soldiers, revolutions, and criminal gangs struggle to survive in a nation rocked by economic turmoil. The powerful Peaky Blinders gang, led by war hero Thomas Shelby, dominates the streets, but Thomas aspires to more. When a shipment of guns goes missing, he sees an opportunity to move up in the world, as legitimate business pays better than crime. Inspector Chester Campbell, determined to rid Britain of crime, arrives from Belfast to pursue this goal.

The highly-rated series, with a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, aired for nearly a decade and has multiple spin-offs in the works. Now, a new chapter is unfolding with the announcement of a Peaky Blinders movie. Here's everything we know about it so far.

In an interview with Radio Times, creator Stephen Knight revealed that he is currently finalizing the last details of the project. He described the writing process as akin to having a dream, with ideas flowing as he sits at the keyboard. Knight plans to begin shooting the project in the middle of next year, in 2024.

Additionally, at the BFI London Film Festival in 2023, Knight announced his intention to write a feature film set and filmed in Birmingham, which he believes will mark the conclusion of Peaky Blinders in its current form.

Who is in the cast of the Peaky Blinders film?

Right now, no cast members have been confirmed, but Knight has mentioned “many great actors” to the Radio Times:

We are in discussions with numerous talented actors for the film and beyond. Our goal is to continue to amaze and introduce new talent. Our focus is on finding exceptional actors from working-class backgrounds and sharing their stories. As for whether Cillian Murphy will return as Tommy Shelby, we can only hope as his casting has not been confirmed.

The actor expressed his feelings to the Radio Times last year about the movie, stating, "That’s probably the worst thing about Peaky Blinders – getting asked about the movie all the time!" he joked. "I would love to do a movie if there’s more story to tell. I’ll wait and see but I have no update for you on that."

What’s the plot of the Peaky Blinders film?

Official plot details for the movie have not been released yet, and it is said that the plot will likely depend on the cast that is chosen. However, it is known that Knight intends for the movie to be on a much larger scale. He stated, "The biggest difference between a film and TV series is the budget. When you do stuff for TV, you often have to ask people to imagine it. But with a film, you can really do it. You can blow stuff up. Will Tommy be giving James Bond a run for his money? Maybe. There are parallels. We always thought of Peaky as very cinematic, so we are finally finding a screen big enough for what we want to do."

We will update this article when we find out more information.

Editor's P/S

As a passionate fan of the Peaky Blinders series, I am thrilled about the upcoming movie. The show has captivated audiences with its compelling storyline, complex characters, and stunning visuals, and I can't wait to see how the story continues on the big screen. The fact that creator Stephen Knight is heavily involved in the project gives me confidence that the movie will stay true to the spirit of the original series while also offering something new and exciting.

The prospect of a larger budget and the potential for even more spectacular visuals is particularly exciting. Peaky Blinders has always been a visually stunning show, and I can't wait to see what they can achieve with a bigger canvas. The possibility of seeing Tommy Shelby go head-to-head with James Bond is also intriguing, as it suggests that the movie may take the series in a new and unexpected direction. Overall, I am incredibly excited about the Peaky Blinders movie and can't wait to learn more about it as production progresses.
