Pauly Shore is hoping to play Richard Simmons in an upcoming biopic, despite Simmons expressing disapproval of the casting and project.
In a message shared on X on Wednesday, April 24, Simmons, who is 75 years old, stated, “I recently learned that a stranger is writing a biopic about me, with Pauly Shore in the lead role. I do not support this film. I am currently in discussions with big movie studios to work on my own biopic. Stay tuned for updates on my project.”
Shore, 56, responded to Richard Simmons' tweet with a long statement on Instagram.
In the statement, Shore expressed how upset she was, admitting to crying all night. She questioned why Simmons did not approve of a movie about him, confidently stating that she would be the perfect choice to play him. Shore humorously pointed out that big-name actors like Leonardo DiCaprio or Brad Pitt wouldn't be able to capture Simmons like she could, as everyone already sees her as the perfect fit to portray him.
He suggested, "Richard, before you make a decision, why not let me visit your home? I can bring you some delicious matzo ball soup and a pastrami sandwich from Canters with dark mustard. We can relax, I can even give you a foot rub, and we can listen to Jordan Allen-Dutton pitch our idea."

The article highlights the ongoing dispute between Pauly Shore and Richard Simmons regarding the production of a biopic about Simmons' life. Shore, despite Simmons' disapproval, is eager to portray him in the biopic and believes he is the ideal choice due to his physical resemblance and comedic style. Simmons, on the other hand, has expressed his intention to collaborate with major movie studios on his own biopic, indicating that he is not supportive of Shore's project.
The article also mentions that Shore previously portrayed Simmons in the short film "The Court Jester," which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. However, Simmons' representative has clarified that neither Simmons nor he endorses the short film, emphasizing that it is unauthorized. Despite Shore's enthusiasm and belief in his suitability for the role, the article suggests that Simmons is not keen on Shore's involvement in his biopic, leading to an ongoing disagreement between the two parties.
