Norway’s King Harald received a temporary pacemaker at a hospital in Malaysia after feeling unwell during his holiday. The procedure took place at Hospital Sultanah Maliha on Langkawi island on Saturday. The 87-year-old monarch needed the pacemaker due to his low heart rate, according to a statement from the royal household.
The palace mentioned that His Majesty is recovering well, but still needs rest. His personal physician recommended the procedure to ensure a safe return to Norway in the coming days.
The royal household informed that the Norwegian Government will assist in His transport, while the Norwegian Armed Forces will handle the practical arrangements for his return to Norway.
The king, who was taking a break, got sick with an infection last week. He has been the king of Norway since 1991, and is the oldest monarch in Europe.
According to the royal household’s website, his next official duty is to lead the Council of State at the Royal Palace on March 8.
