Norman Reedus, the actor from The Walking Dead, has revealed that he had a specific condition that he discussed with the creators before agreeing to join the Daryl Dixon spin-off series.
Bringing Norman Reedus back to take charge of his own world seemed like an obvious choice, but the actor himself expresses some concerns about the series.
In the latest episode of the Lipps Service podcast, hosted by Scott Lipps, Reedus discusses the Daryl Dixon show and shares his conditions for agreeing to participate.
AMC's spin-off series featuring Daryl Dixon had Norman Reedus requesting an entirely new team of writers. Reedus expressed his excitement about the show being set in France, saying, "They asked me if I would be interested in doing this show in France, and I said f*** yeah, let's do that, but I need all new writers." Consequently, the Showrunner and the previous group of writers were let go to ensure a fresh start for the series.
Daryl Dixon's presence in the extended Walking Dead universe notwithstanding, Reedus had a valid motive for desiring a complete reset and a new path for the spin-off. Since a significant portion of the show is in French, it was essential to involve French writers who possess knowledge of certain elements exclusive to the culture. Reedus had no intention of portraying a stereotypical American character in France, complete with a beret and eating baguettes. Instead, he wanted the show to truly belong to the French people.
Daryl Dixon's risk paid off as fans and critics alike received him positively. Following the success, a second season was greenlit, with actress Melissa McBride making a cameo in the final episode, signaling the return of veteran character Carol.
