A Refiner is particularly useful when players need to obtain uncommon or hazardous materials for significant construction projects or upgrades.
How to Refine Materials in No Man's Sky
Refining involves placing ingredients into a refiner to transform them into a more compact and valuable substance. Refined materials hold greater trade value and possess a higher concentration for their intended purpose.
Raw and refined materials are used in starship, life support, and multi-tool fuel, but the latter requires fewer refined materials to function at maximum efficiency. Players need to ensure they maintain certain resources without depleting their inventory space, and refining is the optimal method to prevent material wastage.
Players must get a refiner to start refining ingredients. There are four types of refiners, including the following:

| Medium refiners combine two elements and transform them into something else or break down materials into more concentrated versions. Instead of fuel, Medium refiners are attached to base or freight power sources. |
Large Refiner |
| Large refiners combine three elements to create something new. Large don't require fuel and are attached to base or freight power source to work. |
Players have the ability to create the Portable Refiner relatively early in their gameplay by completing the base-building missions. On the other hand, in order to craft Personal, Medium, and Large Refiners, players will need blueprints. These blueprints can be obtained from various locations such as crashed ships, facilities, containers, and other spots found on planets. Additionally, players have the option to acquire blueprints by purchasing them using Nanite Clusters from the Space Anomaly.

As a Gen Z netizen, I am excited about the new No Man's Sky update that allows players to refine materials.
