No Man's Sky: Mastering Material Refinement

Refine materials in No Man's Sky to gather vital resources efficiently and earn quick profits

In No Man's Sky, players must gather materials from planets and space for crafting, building, and fueling. Certain materials are more scarce or can only be obtained by combining multiple elements.

To combine materials in the game, players must utilize a Refiner. Minerals, plants, and other natural resources collected from planets are the primary resources that players refine. A Refiner is particularly useful when players need to obtain uncommon or hazardous materials for significant construction projects or upgrades.

How to Refine Materials in No Man's Sky

No Man's Sky: Mastering Material Refinement

Refining involves placing ingredients into a refiner to transform them into a more compact and valuable substance. Refined materials hold greater trade value and possess a higher concentration for their intended purpose.

Raw and refined materials are used in starship, life support, and multi-tool fuel, but the latter requires fewer refined materials to function at maximum efficiency. Players need to ensure they maintain certain resources without depleting their inventory space, and refining is the optimal method to prevent material wastage.

Players must get a refiner to start refining ingredients. There are four types of refiners, including the following:

Refiner Type

Crafting Ingredients

Description

Portable Refiner

  • Metal Plating
  • Oxygen x30

Portable refiners are one of the basic standards of refiners. They turn single elements into more concentrated versions of themselves or transform them into something else entirely. Portable refiners require Carbon or Condensed Carbon to fuel them.

Personal Refiner

  • Chromatic Metal x100
  • Oxygen x150

Personal refiners turn single elements into concentrated versions or something new. They work the same as Portable refiners but are directly attached to the Exosuit.

Medium Refiner

  • Magnetized Ferrite x100
  • Di-hydrogen Jelly x5

Medium refiners combine two elements and transform them into something else or break down materials into more concentrated versions. Instead of fuel, Medium refiners are attached to base or freight power sources.

Large Refiner

  • Chromatic Metal x200
  • Sodium Nitrate x100
  • Microprocessor x5

Large refiners combine three elements to create something new. Large don't require fuel and are attached to base or freight power source to work.

Players have the ability to create the Portable Refiner relatively early in their gameplay by completing the base-building missions. On the other hand, in order to craft Personal, Medium, and Large Refiners, players will need blueprints. These blueprints can be obtained from various locations such as crashed ships, facilities, containers, and other spots found on planets. Additionally, players have the option to acquire blueprints by purchasing them using Nanite Clusters from the Space Anomaly.

As a Gen Z netizen, I am excited about the new No Man's Sky update that allows players to refine materials. This will make it much easier to gather the resources I need to build and upgrade my equipment. I am also impressed by the variety of refiners that are available, each with its own unique benefits. I think that this update will add a lot of depth to the game and make it more enjoyable for players.

However, I am concerned about the potential impact of refining on the game's economy. If players are able to easily obtain rare materials, it could lead to inflation and make it more difficult for players to make a profit. I hope that the developers will keep a close eye on the economy and make adjustments as needed.
