Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has addressed rumors about the successor to the Switch console, stating that they are not true. During a private earnings call, Furukawa labeled the rumors as "inaccurate" and dismissed them altogether. He also mentioned a recent patent application for a Nintendo device with multiple screens, implying that there are no plans for such a console.
Reports of tech demos showcasing new games were circulated among select game developers at Gamescom earlier this year. One of these demos in particular supposedly featured a more powerful version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for the Switch.
Nintendo has kept quiet about its upcoming console, but there are strong speculations suggesting that it will be launched in 2024. A reassuring indication for this successor to the Switch is that the existing Nintendo Account system will seamlessly transition to the new console.
According to a recent report from Digital Foundry, the upcoming Nintendo console will be powered by a customized Nvidia processor. Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch continues to thrive, with Nintendo reporting an operating profit of $1.9 billion and lifetime sales of 132.46 million units for the six months ending on September 30, 2023.
In addition, the software segment is performing well, thanks in part to the successful release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which has had a positive impact on sales of Mario games, including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Overall, game sales have surpassed 1.13 billion to date.

As a hard fan of Nintendo, I am both excited and intrigued by the recent rumors surrounding the upcoming Switch 2. While it is disappointing to hear that Nintendo has denied these reports, I understand that the company may not be ready to officially announce its plans just yet. However, the fact that Nintendo has addressed the rumors suggests that there may be some truth to them, and that the company is at least considering the possibility of releasing a new console in the future.
I am particularly interested in the reports that the Switch 2 may feature a more powerful processor and support for 4K gaming. These upgrades would be a significant improvement over the current Switch, and would make the console more competitive with other next-generation consoles on the market. I am also intrigued by the possibility of a new Zelda game being released for the Switch 2. Breath of the Wild was one of the best games of the last generation, and I would love to see what Nintendo could do with a sequel on more powerful hardware.
