Nigerian music star Simi is a multi-talented artist. She is not only a singer and songwriter but also one of the few women who mix and produce their own music. Simi is paving the way for the future of Afropop and soul music.
Her international stardom has been solidified by opening for 15-time Grammy-winning artist Alicia Keys on her 2023 tour and making a significant impact on the Billboard World Album Charts.
Simi, also known as Simisola Bolatito Kosoko, started her music career as a gospel singer and released her debut album "Ogaju" in 2008.
In the following years, she released more albums, but by 2014, when she wanted to create her "RESTLESS" EP, she did not have a record label. In a recent interview with CNN's Larry Madowo in Lagos, Nigeria, Simi mentioned that she did not have the funds to pay for a record label.
So, the singer taught herself how to record, mix, and master her own music by watching videos on YouTube.
“It came to me so naturally,” Simi said. “I love doing it.”
