Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton’s characters, Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton, are set to surprise viewers with some shocking scenes in the upcoming Bridgerton episodes. However, their families will not be witnessing these moments.

During the season 3 official launch in Australia, Newton joked that they will not be watching those scenes with their grandmothers. "We won’t watch it with our nans,” he said with a laugh during an interview with Australia’s The Sunday Project on April 21. "That’s not going to happen."

Coughlan, who is 37 years old, shared that she agreed with her onscreen love interest. She mentioned how her mum recently watched some episodes of the show and she ended up skipping a big portion of it. Coughlan jokingly suggested that maybe giving her grandma a Bailey's drink beforehand might help her enjoy the show more, but she wasn't sure.

The Derry Girls alum revealed that she and Newton have already watched season 3 and have no interest in watching it again with their parents. She emphatically stated, "Absolutely not."

In season 3 of the Netflix series inspired by Julia Quinn's Bridgerton novels, Colin, one of the eight Bridgerton siblings, takes center stage. The storyline follows a friends-to-lovers trope as he falls in love with Penelope.

Newton also revealed to The Sunday Project that season 3 of the show will delve into a more romantic storyline for Colin and Penelope, affectionately known as Polin by fans.

He expressed his excitement, stating, "It's exciting to finally see their story unfold. Fans have been eagerly waiting to see their friends-to-lovers romance blossom, and we really go all out in this season."

While not much has been revealed about the period drama, fans of the book can confirm that Colin and Penelope's journey heats up. According to the books, the characters have romantic encounters in a carriage, in front of a mirror, and in Colin's study. Newton and Coughlan have openly discussed filming these steamy scenes, although it remains to be seen how they will be portrayed on the show.

"I was getting ready for my intimate scenes and I told Nic, 'You have to see what I'm wearing before we begin,'" Newton shared during a recent interview. "It's just a small piece of cloth."

Coughlan mentioned that she didn't have many clothes and considered her wardrobe to be the worst. She pointed out that hers was even less than Newton's.

Even though they didn't have a lot of clothing, Coughlan and Newton still trusted each other to act professionally on set.

Coughlan shared with a separate outlet on Sunday that she was initially scared of filming certain scenes in Bridgerton, but they turned out to be some of their favorite moments to shoot. She mentioned that the build-up to these scenes made them feel accomplished when they were able to deliver. The writing of these scenes was described as beautiful, romantic, sexy, and funny, capturing everything that viewers love about Bridgerton.

The first half of Bridgerton season 3 will be available for streaming on Netflix starting on Thursday, May 16. The remaining episodes will be released on Thursday, June 13.

Paragraph 1:

The upcoming Bridgerton episodes promise to ignite the screens with steamy scenes involving Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton, much to the amusement of their onscreen counterparts, Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton. The actors acknowledge that these scenes may not be suitable for viewing with their grandmothers, highlighting the show's departure from the traditional regency romance formula. Coughlan's suggestion of offering her grandma a Bailey's drink before watching the show adds a touch of humor to the situation.
