Brazilian football sensation Neymar will undergo surgical treatment for the simultaneous tearing of his left knee's anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus, as officially confirmed by his club Al-Hilal.
This injury was sustained by the 31-year-old athlete during Brazil's unfortunate 2-0 loss to Uruguay on Tuesday.
Neymar collapsed to the ground, clutching his knee, after a battle with Uruguay's Nicolás de la Cruz for the ball just before half-time. He received medical attention for several minutes and was then stretchered off the field.
"The medical tests Neymar underwent confirmed that he has suffered an injury to his Anterior Cruciate Ligament and Meniscus tear in his knee. He will undergo surgery and follow a treatment program, the details of which will be determined later," the team announced on X, formerly known as Twitter. "Return stronger, @neymarjr ❤️"
The club did not disclose the duration of the Brazilian player's potential absence, but typically ACL injuries require several months of recovery. This puts his participation in the Copa América in June at risk.
Neymar, who joined the Saudi Arabian club in September, left Paris Saint-Germain after six seasons in the French capital. His move made him one of the most high-profile players to join the growing Saudi Pro League. With a transfer fee of â¬222 million (approximately $243.1M) in his 2017 move to PSG, he became the most expensive soccer player in history.

"Its a very sad time, the worst," Neymar posted on X after the injury was confirmed. "I know Im strong, but this time Im going to need my family and friends even more."
Throughout his career, the forward has been plagued by injuries. This will be the second time Neymar undergoes surgery in 2023. His final season in Paris was cut short due to an ankle injury in February.
"It's tough to experience injury and surgery, let alone going through it all over again after four months of recovering," he expressed in his post.
Neymar became Brazils all-time record goalscorer in September, passing Pelés record of 77 international goals after scoring twice against Bolivia.
