Brazilian forward Neymar will be undergoing surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus in his left knee, as confirmed by his club Al Hilal. Following the injury sustained during Brazil's 2-0 defeat against Uruguay on Tuesday, Neymar left the field in tears.

Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal did not say how long the the 31-year-old is expected to be out for.

Neymar sustained the injury while contending for the ball against Uruguay's Nicolas de la Cruz during the 44th minute of the 2-0 loss. After receiving treatment for a few minutes, he had to be stretchered off the field, visibly distraught. It appears that he will now face an extended period of absence, potentially lasting several months.
