After two and a half years of anticipation, FDG Entertainment has finally announced the release date of August 2 for the next-gen version of Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm. The eagerly awaited PS5 and Xbox Series X/S ports of Oceanhorn 2 will not disappoint, as they boast improved graphics that support 4K gameplay at a smooth 60 frames per second.
The upcoming release of Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm will now be available on PC, with a price tag of $29.99. This next-gen version will include all the quality-of-life improvements and content updates from the previous versions of the game. After two and a half years since the announcement of its availability on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, FDG Entertainment has confirmed that the highly anticipated Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm will finally be hitting the market on August 2.
Taking inspiration from classic 2D Zelda games, the 2013 release of Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas led to an open-world sequel that drew inspiration from The Wind Waker and Breath of the Wild. Initially available exclusively on Apple Arcade in September 2019, a year later, FDG released Oceanhorn 2 for the Nintendo Switch.
In comparison to the Switch version, the upcoming ports of Oceanhorn 2 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will showcase sharper graphics, supporting 4K gameplay at 60 frames per second. This enhancement is a considerable improvement from Nintendo's latest console. However, the original iOS version already offered a 60fps mode and ran at native device resolutions, despite Apple's latest smartphones and tablets not featuring 4K displays. It remains uncertain whether the upcoming ports will deliver notably superior visuals compared to the last two generations of the iPad Pro. Additionally, FDG has not clarified if the next-gen versions of Oceanhorn 2 will include larger draw distances or other graphical enhancements.
Oceanhorn 2's next-generation release will also be available on PC, with the game set to launch on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. FDG has priced it at $29.99, the same as the Switch version. Speaking of the Switch port, Oceanhorn 2 is currently available at a 40% discount, making it purchasable for $17.99 until August 3. However, the iOS version remains the most affordable option, as one month of Apple Arcade costs $4.99. Oceanhorn 2 has been praised as one of the best RPGs on Apple Arcade, not only for its gameplay qualities but also for its outstanding optimization that utilizes mobile hardware effectively.
The next-gen console and PC ports of Oceanhorn 2 will include all quality-of-life and content updates that have been added to the existing versions of the game thus far. If the next-gen launch is successful, it could potentially increase the chances of a third installment in the series, unless Finnish developer Cornfox and Bros. is already working on Oceanhorn 3. Until then, Oceanhorn 2 will be one of the closest experiences to a PlayStation and Xbox version of Zelda when it finally arrives in the market in early August.
Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm is available on iOS and Nintendo Switch, while its PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S versions launch August 2.
