Kids will always be kids, and that's exactly the case with New Kids on the Block. Even after 40 years since they first hit the boy band scene, they're still holding onto that youthful spirit.
On Tuesday, March 5, the group made up of Jonathan Knight, Jordan Knight, Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood, and Joey McIntyre, shared exciting news. They announced their upcoming eighth studio album called Still Kids, marking their first release since 2013's 10. The album, featuring 14 tracks, is set to be released on Friday, May 17. To kick things off, they dropped a new song and music video titled "Kids". Fans can also catch their first live performance of the song on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Friday, March 8.
Donnie and I worked together on the entire album," McIntyre, 51, shared exclusively with We during a conversation about the new album and his role in Drag: The Musical at L.A.'s Bourbon Room. He mentioned that one song, "Kids," was written by Dave Stewart, a writer and producer, and he described it as a fantastic song.
According to McIntyre, the new track effectively summarizes the band's journey. "It really captures everything," he explained. "The five of us have been fortunate to maintain a sense of youthfulness. Many people look to us for a return to a joyful place, and we encourage them to simply have fun. We are a source of escape and will continue to spread that message. I believe that this song, 'Kids,' serves as a new anthem for us."
Wahlberg, 54, served as the executive producer of the album. He expressed in a press release that Still Kids is the most mature album the group has ever created. Despite its maturity, it remains the most enjoyable and lively album. According to Wahlberg, Still Kids brings New Kids and their fans full circle, focusing on themes of hope, possibilities, and authenticity.
The album includes collaborations with DJ Jazzy Jeff on the track "Get Down" and Taylor Dayne on "Old School Love." DJ Jazzy Jeff will be joining NKOTB on their Magic Summer 2024 tour. Additionally, Paula Abdul will be a special guest on the tour.
McIntyre praised Abdul as the ultimate entertainer, describing her as the complete music package. He also highlighted DJ Jazzy Jeff's role in kicking off the party. With most of the shows being held outdoors this summer, there is a unique vibe and energy to the events. It's like a summer festival atmosphere, promising a lot of fun for everyone involved.
McIntyre will be performing at Hollywood’s Bourbon Room in a limited run of Drag: The Musical before joining his fellow boy band OGs. The show, written by drag superstar Alaska Thunderf–k, certified platinum songwriter/producer Tomas Costanza, and Ashley Gordon, portrays two rival drag bars competing against each other. Previews for the show will take place on March 15 and 16, with the official opening on March 22. The final performances are scheduled for March 29-31, just in time for McIntyre to prepare for the upcoming tour with the Kids.
